Because of hand luggage: Unruly PAX threatens with a bomb at the gate in Miami

Last week, an unruly PAX felt the need to make a bomb threat at Miami Airport. The incident occurred on June 18, 2023 at Gate 28. Passengers were waiting there for American Airlines flight AA929 to São Paulo. Local media reports that an argument broke out between ground staff and a 44-year-old Brazilian. The unruly PAX was apparently asked to check in his hand luggage for loading free of charge because the plane was fully booked and there was not enough space in the overhead bins. But the man did not want to do that at all. At first the conversation got louder and louder before he completely lost it. The man completely lost his nerve when the ground staff explained to him that they could not provide him with a lock or a chain to lock the trolley. They appealed that no one would steal anything from his hand luggage. Now the 44-year-old unruly PAX loudly threatened that there was a bomb in his trolley and that he would explode it if his wishes were not fulfilled. Some passengers were quite panicked. The gate agent is said to have been in a state of shock for a few moments, but then immediately, calmly and calmly alerted the police. The 44-year-old man was then arrested by the police and taken to the police station for further questioning. Contrary to the statements of the ground staff and passengers who experienced the incident as eyewitnesses, the unruly PAX claimed that he had not

Luton Airport celebrates 85s with special beer

London Luton Airport opened as a military airport in 1938 and is celebrating its 85th anniversary with a special beer. Candice Brown, who runs The Green Man pub in Bedfordshire and was previously a stewardess for Monarch Airlines in LLA, delighted passengers with a surprise appearance to toast the anniversary. Candice, who is known for her warm and friendly manner, had the honour of pouring the first glass of the specially brewed beer, Lift Off 85, to mark the momentous occasion. As a tribute to the airport's roots, Candice recreated the iconic 1979 photo of Lorraine Chase at the airport, completing her look with a replica boater's hat and raising a glass of the specially brewed beer in place of the champagne from the original photo. The exclusive beer was brewed by The Big Smoke Brew Co and is only available at the Big Smoke Taphouse & Kitchen in the airport departure hall.

Greenpeace criticizes expensive train tickets

Many climate and environmental activists would prefer to ban travel by plane and are persistently advocating for the railway as a supposedly "climate-friendly" alternative. Now the mode of transport favored by these groups is also being criticized, because the tickets are far too expensive. The organization Greenpeace compared the prices on 112 routes within Europe. In each case, several booking times were used. The result: from Germany, rail travel would have been more expensive than air travel in all cases. Travelers have to pay up to 71 percent more for train journeys. Air travel would have been cheaper in almost all samples. On 31 routes to/from Germany, train tickets would have cost at least half as much as plane tickets. Greenpeace cites the connection between Barcelona and London as an extreme example. For the same travel dates, airline tickets were found for 12,99 euros, while train tickets would have cost 384 euros. Due to the significantly longer travel time by rail, the train is likely to be an "alternative" only for ideologically convinced people. But there are exceptions: on the Hamburg-Munich route operated by Lufthansa and between Hamburg and Brussels, the prices for flights would have been exorbitantly high. On these two routes, the environmentalists from Greenpeace found cheaper train tickets in all cases. The organization is now calling for cheaper train tickets and a kerosene tax of at least 50 cents per liter. It is calculated that this could generate 46,2 billion euros. Greenpeace then wants to use these funds to subsidize rail transport.

Tip: A good first-aid kit can be valuable on holiday

A well-stocked first aid kit is an important part of a summer holiday by the sea, especially if you are travelling with children, allergy sufferers or diabetics. Proper preparation can help to deal with any health problems that may arise during the trip. The following explains what should be included in such a first aid kit and gives special recommendations for children, allergy sufferers and diabetics. It also looks at whether there are import restrictions or import bans on medication in certain countries and which countries require a medical certificate for importing medication. Important: This article does not constitute advice reserved for doctors and pharmacists, but is intended to provide guidance only. People with (chronic) illnesses in particular should seek advice from a doctor and/or pharmacist they trust before putting together a kit. This is especially true if you are taking prescription medication with you. Think of the children too For a good first aid kit by the sea, you should first take basic first aid items with you. These include bandages such as plasters, sterile compresses, gauze bandages, wound disinfectant and scissors. Sunscreen with a high sun protection factor is essential to protect the skin from sunburn. Make sure that the sunscreen is waterproof, as you will often be in the sea or pool. Insect bites are not uncommon on summer holidays, so you should also take insect repellent with you. For children, it is important to choose a mosquito repellent product that is suitable for their age group. For children, in addition to the items mentioned above, specific medication should also be taken. Fever and painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen in child-appropriate doses should always be on hand. Anti-inflammatory drugs should also be taken with you.
