From Salzburg and Friedrichshafen: Lufthansa starts Heathrow non-stop flights

A few years ago, Lufthansa said goodbye to so-called decentralized routes and concentrated on traffic from/to Frankfurt am Main and Munich. Now at least a small "comeback" has been announced in the winter flight schedule, as there will be non-stop flights to Salzburg and Friedrichshafen from London Heathrow. According to Lufthansa, the connection to the city of Mozart will start on December 16, 2023 and will be served twice a week with Airbus A2023 aircraft until the end of the 24/320 winter period. The core target group are winter sports enthusiasts from the United Kingdom who want to spend their holidays in the ski resorts around the state capital Salzburg. The Lufthansa flights will operate on Saturdays and Sundays. The Kranich jets will leave Heathrow Airport at 11:10 a.m. and arrive in Salzburg at around 14:20 p.m. The return flight will depart at 15:55 p.m. and arrive at 17:05 p.m. From December 16, 2023, the Kranich airline will also fly between London Heathrow and Friedrichshafen on Saturdays with A320 aircraft. According to Bodensee Airport, the new connection can also be combined with connecting flights via Frankfurt am Main. "We are delighted about this additional winter offer, especially for holidaymakers from the British Isles who like to use Bodensee Airport as a gateway to the Vorarlberg and Swiss Alps," says Bernd Behrend, Head of Marketing at Friedrichshafen Airport. The flights between London and Lake Constance will operate on Saturdays as follows: The outbound flight will take off at 13:50 p.m. from the largest airport in the United Kingdom and will arrive in Friedrichshafen at around 16:40 p.m. The return flight will depart at 18:40 p.m.

Transavia France wants to fly to Western Sahara again

The low-cost airline Transavia France plans to fly between Paris-Orly and Ad-Dakhla again at the start of the 2023/24 winter flight schedule period. This route was discontinued in 2018 due to political disagreements. Ad-Dakhla is located in Western Sahara, which was annexed by Morocco in 1975. Its status under international law has not yet been clarified. Some states recognize the area as part of Morocco, but others do not. Transavia France intends to fly to Ad-Dakhla twice a week from Orly Airport on October 30, 2023. This route was already in the portfolio, but had to be discontinued for political reasons.

Wizz Air adjusts Southeast Europe routes from Vienna

The low-cost airline Wizz Air is making some adjustments to the route network offered from Vienna-Schwechat. For example, the destination Kukes, which was also intended to serve as an alternative to nearby Pristina, has been abandoned. The route mentioned between Vienna and the Albanian airport was last served in the middle of this month. Kukes Airport has now been completely removed from Wizz Air's reservation system. This is a clear indication that the carrier does not plan to resume operations in the foreseeable future. The non-stop connection between Tuzla and Vienna, currently offered on Mondays and Fridays, will also not be continued. This route is scheduled to be served for the last time on September 15, 2023. The background to this is that the corresponding base and Bosnia are being closed. The flight connections to Basel, Berlin, Friedrichshafen, Cologne/Bonn and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden are also affected by this measure, as these are also being discontinued. Dortmund, Frankfurt-Hahn and Memmingen will continue to be served, some to a greatly reduced extent. According to the current state of affairs, the flight connection between Podgorica and Vienna will not be served in the 2023/24 winter flight schedule. This route will be served for the last time on October 26, 2023 and is to be reactivated on April 2, 2024. There will be an early termination on the Varna-Vienna route. This will be sent into "winter break" as early as September 10, 2023 - and thus earlier than originally announced. The Burgas route is to continue until October 28, 2023 and then also pause over the cold season. The early temporary terminations from Varna also affect the destinations Nuremberg, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, Frankfurt-Hahn and Liverpool.
