Zurich: forest owner blocks planned spotter viewing platform

One forest owner is not at all happy that Flughafen Zürich AG wants to replace the “Heligrill” spotting site with an observation platform further north as part of the “Zone West” construction project. He has filed an appeal against the plan. The forest owner’s appeal means that Flughafen Zürich AG will not be able to stick to the originally announced schedule. New aircraft parking spaces are currently being built in Zone West at Zurich Airport. For this reason, the “Heligrill” spotting site, which was temporarily built in 2017, has to be relocated. The plan is to build a new observation platform as a vantage point for spotters a little further north – closer to the runway intersection. The traditional heli snack stand is also to be moved to the same location. “However, due to an appeal by an adjacent forest owner that is currently pending with the building appeals court, the project has now been delayed. The existing spotter hill will be dismantled as planned in September as part of the Zone West construction project, and the Heligrill snack bar will be closed at the end of October. When and if the new spotter platform can be built and the snack bar can be reopened at the new location is not yet foreseeable due to the pending appeal," announced Zurich Airport. However, spotters can still use the space where the viewing platform is to be built. According to Zurich Airport, the location is freely accessible and paved. Only the planned platform will have to be dispensed with for an indefinite period. The airport commented: "Zurich Airport regrets not being able to provide spotters with a seamless transition from the spotter hill to the platform as planned."

Winter 2023/24: Luxair takes on La Palma

In the 2023/24 winter flight schedule, Luxair will fly to La Palma once a week. This is a stopover on an existing Fuerteventura route. The carrier plans to fly from Luxembourg to La Palma once a week from November 737, 8 with Boeing 9-Max-2023 aircraft. For most tickets, unless it is a special flexible fare, the flight price itself is only refunded if the airline cancels the flight. However, if you cancel yourself or simply do not use the booking, you will not get any of the net air fare back, especially in cheaper fare classes. The situation is completely different with taxes and fees, which make up a significant part of the money paid by many airlines. The airline only has to pay these if the passenger actually flew. There is even a legal right to get the "taxes" back. However, many passengers do not know this, so "no shows" can amount to a not insignificant "bucket money". The taxes and fees do not have to be reclaimed immediately, but you have three years to do so. After that, the claim is considered time-barred and the airline can completely legally refuse to reimburse you by citing the limitation period. Lufthansa with small catering adjustments

From mid-August 2023, business class passengers on Lufthansa long-haul flights will be able to pre-order their desired meals starting one month before departure. The carrier promises that there will be a larger selection. However, the order must be placed no later than 24 hours before the scheduled departure. Another innovation concerns buy-on-board catering in economy class on European flights. The carrier has been offering an expanded range of hot drinks since August 1, 2023. The airline also plans to use reusable plastic cups in the future. Another new feature on board Lufthansa long-haul flights is an expanded entertainment offering for children and young people. The airline's e-journals media library will in future offer young passengers an expanded range of child-friendly reading material in the children's media box. It includes a wide range of journals and magazines in various languages ​​that can be downloaded free of charge. Coloring pages are also available for the youngest children so that the waiting time at the gate and the time on board fly by. The new children's podcasts, which are now available free of charge on the FlyNet portal on short and medium-haul flights, are also contributing to this. In addition, the range of children's content in the inflight entertainment program has been expanded for the summer months. More than 50 films and TV programs as well as many audio programs are available for young guests on long-haul flights. Especially during the holiday season, children's TV programs and audio books can be accessed free of charge via QR codes at the Lufthansa gates and playgrounds in Terminal 2 in Munich and Terminal 1 in Frankfurt.
