Madrid: Passengers have to endure 1,5 hours in Brussels-A320 with defective air conditioning

A Brussels Airlines flight from Madrid to Brussels on August 1, 2023 was very unpleasant for some passengers because the air conditioning malfunctioned. This meant that it became very hot on board the OO-SNB. According to a media report in the Belgian newspaper HLN, the defect was already present on the ground in Madrid. Due to the high temperatures that existed on site, a medical emergency is said to have occurred before take-off. One person lost consciousness. Temperatures on board are said to have been around 45 degrees Celsius. The captain repeatedly made announcements that he would have the problem fixed as quickly as possible. However, no repairs were carried out, and after the passengers had to wait about 1,5 hours in the hot Brussels A320, the medium-haul jet took off for Brussels without functioning air conditioning. Belgian media report that some passengers were not feeling particularly well during the flight. Some travelers are making serious accusations against the Lufthansa subsidiary in regional newspapers, claiming that the repairs were not carried out on site because otherwise there would have been a delay of more than three hours in arrival. This would have meant that all travelers would have been entitled to compensation of 250 euros. The airline concerned confirmed that there was a technical problem on flight SN3728 on August 1, 2023. The system that activated the air conditioning when the engines were switched off was affected. It is explained that the travelers were given water and ice cubes. Nevertheless, it is admitted that

Fee increase: Ryanair threatens to withdraw from the Azores

The Ryanair Group is threatening the regional government of the Azores that all flights to the Portuguese archipelago could be cut in the 2023/24 winter flight schedule. This would also affect the Ponta Delgada base, as a Boeing 737-800 is stationed there. The reason for the disagreement is that, according to Ryanair, prices at the airports in Lajes (Terceira) and Ponta Delgada (São Miguel) have increased by around 26 percent. This would make it increasingly difficult to make attractively priced offers. The Civil Aviation Authority is being called upon to reverse the latest price increase, which was approved at the request of the private airport operator. Furthermore, the already officially approved reduction in the security fee is being demanded to be implemented. Another aspect concerns the fact that Madeira and the Azores have been generally excluded from the ETS program. Speaking to the newspaper Jornal Económico, Ryanair DAC Managing Director Eddie Wilson explained, among other things, that the three points criticized would lead to costs increasing by around 13 euros per passenger. The manager puts the ETS exclusion alone at 10 euros. According to his own information, the average flight price for Azores flights in 2023 was 41 euros. Wilson also stressed that the approved discounts would not apply exclusively to Ryanair, but to all carriers. He felt misunderstood in this context, because it was not about grazing on any subsidies, but simply demanding that the fees not be increased any further. For Ryanair, the Azores would also be a seasonal business. Some routes that are available in the summer flight schedule would
