LOT Polish Airlines would also like to fly to Warsaw-Podgorica in winter

The carrier LOT Polish Airlines plans to continue offering the route between Warsaw and Podgorica during the winter. Three weekly flights to the Montenegrin city are to be operated by mid-January. A few years ago, the airline LOT Polish Airlines operated year-round flights on the Warsaw-Podgorica route. With the onset of the corona pandemic, this approach had to be reconsidered, which led to the cancellation of some flights. Most recently, the route was operated seasonally, and in the summer the airline was able to operate numerous flights to Podgorica, as the portal Ex-Yu Aviation can report. However, this is to continue in the winter as well: the airline plans to operate three weekly flights from the beginning of the winter period until around mid-January, after which the route will only be operated seasonally in the summer. The decision has not yet been made, and it is unclear which position the Polish airline will choose.

Hamburg satisfied with acceptance of “Siko with appointment”

Hamburg Airport believes that the "security check with appointment" introduced in April 2023, which is marketed as "Slot & Fly", has been well received. So far, this optional option has been used by around 250.000 passengers. There has also been a significant increase in the number of travelers checking in their bags at machines. Around one in four passengers are now said to use this service. With almost 2 million travelers, Hamburg Airport was busier than it has been since 2019 during the six holiday weeks. On the peak day, Friday, July 14, with over 370 flights, around 55.000 passengers used the airport. The planes were significantly fuller in the first two weeks of the holiday than during the 2019 summer holidays: capacity utilization rose from 83 percent (2019) to over 86 percent. For all partners at the airport, this means that more passengers are looked after at the same time per flight - whether at the security check, during baggage transport or when boarding the plane. Demand is expected to remain at a consistently high level in the coming weeks: the airport is expecting a peak of up to 350.000 passengers per week by the end of September - this corresponds to 85 to 90 percent of the passenger volume compared to 2019. "We have clearly felt during these summer holidays that private travellers in particular - including many families - are flying on holiday by plane again. Classic destinations such as Spain, the Greek islands and Turkey are particularly popular," says Katja Bromm, Head of Communications at Hamburg Airport. "The fact that things are running largely smoothly despite the high level of activity in the terminals is due in part to

Helvetic Airways pays “autumn bonus” to all employees

The airline Helvetic Airways expects that there will be high demand in autumn 2023 and that the entire fleet will be in operation. All employees will receive a bonus of 500 Swiss francs on top of their August salary. Company boss Tobias Pogorevc told the newspaper "Blick" that sole owner Martin Ebner had agreed to this measure "immediately". It is emphasized that this is not a bonus, but an extraordinary reward that all employees, regardless of their position, should receive. Last Wednesday, Helvetic Airways took over aircraft number 18 in the fleet. The number of aircraft at this provider is now larger than ever before. In addition to flights under its own brand from Zurich and Bern, the company also operates charter flights for tour operators and wet leases for Swiss. The additional aircraft is a used Embraer 190 that was taken over in Poland. Helvetic Airways is set to be a little quieter in the 2023/24 winter flight schedule. Pogorevc confirmed to "Blick" that not the entire fleet will be available due to upcoming maintenance work. The airline will mainly fly for Swiss and tour operators. Scheduled flights on its own account will not be offered in winter 2023/24. As things stand, the airline plans to operate the 2024 summer flight schedule with 16 Embraer jets. The airline will also then offer one or two routes on its own account. The "reduction" is due to the fact that two older aircraft will be sold off.

Cargo: Budapest has opened extended apron

At Budapest Airport, the expansion of the BUD Cargo City apron has been completed after ten months of construction. It was officially opened last week. With a throughput of 107.000 tonnes by the end of July, the airport is on track to reach a new all-time high in cargo volumes this year. Due to this increase - which is a strong 2023% in the May-July 9 period compared to the same period last year - and in order to efficiently handle aircraft with larger capacity, the Hungarian airport has made an investment of around EUR 10 million in doubling the BUD Cargo City apron. The redesign will enable the airport to handle up to four F-code (B747F) aircraft with nose loading options simultaneously. “Since the opening of BUD Cargo City in 2020, Budapest Airport has handled record cargo volumes every year, and cargo volumes by the end of July 2023 were 40% higher than in the same period in 2019, signaling significant growth potential for our partners and the Hungarian economy as a whole,” explains René Droese, Chief Development Officer and Deputy CEO of Budapest Airport. “The completion of the apron extension is the next important milestone in our overall cargo expansion plan, which will increase the airport’s annual cargo capacity to 2023 tonnes per year by the end of 300.000 and ensure that Hungary continues to lead the way as a competitive cargo hub in Central and Eastern Europe.”

Spirit Aerosystems admits further B737 Max quality defects

The Boeing 737 Max series and the military variant of the B737NG, the P-8 "Poseidon", are affected by a new quality problem. The supplier Spirit Aerosystems confirmed that fuselages delivered from the Wichita plant are affected. According to the company, "extended mounting holes on the rear pressure bulkhead" are affected. The problem also lies in the fact that the parts supplied to Boeing are not completely manufactured by Spirit itself. On the other hand, it is claimed that this is now an advantage, because not all, but only "a few" units are affected. Spirit also stated that it has already taken measures. These should ensure that the quality defects no longer occur. A statement reads, among other things: "We are working closely with our customer to correct all affected units within the production system and to carry out any necessary rework." The aircraft manufacturer affected, Boeing, believes that it has no safety concerns. The quality defects identified have no "immediate impact on the flight safety of the B737 Max". The fleets can continue to operate without problems.
