Swiss increases Graz-Zurich

From September 24, 2023, Swiss will also connect Graz and Zurich airports on Sundays. This means that there will be four weekly connections to the hub in Switzerland in the future. Graz is currently connected to the hubs in Vienna (Austrian Airlines), Frankfurt, Munich (both Lufthansa), Zurich (Swiss) and Amsterdam (KLM). At the beginning of September, the connection between Graz and Munich was upgraded by 12 weekly flights; passengers from Graz will thus once again have up to 3 daily connections to the Bavarian capital and from there to the whole world. "The additional frequency to Zurich represents an important upgrade of the flight schedule. For our passengers, every additional scheduled flight to a major transfer airport means more flexibility, as the number of transfer options increases," explains Wolfgang Grimus, Managing Director of Graz Airport. "This leads to better transfer times, higher quality of service and ultimately shorter travel times."

Former Yugoslavia: Airports could handle over 17 million passengers

The airports in the Balkans can boast successful passenger numbers. This is particularly evident in the half-year figures of all relevant airports in the Balkans; the former Yugoslav airports recorded a passenger volume of 17.75 million passengers in the first half of the year. Air traffic in the Balkans was largely able to say goodbye to the Corona crisis and achieve successful figures in its own aviation sector. The airports in question, which were still part of the former Yugoslavia a few decades ago, together recorded over 17 million passengers. Belgrade Airport and Split Airport are particularly noteworthy in this list; the airports are among the busiest airports in Europe, as the Ex-Yu Aviation News portal confirms. The five most successful airports in this respect are Belgrade, Zagreb, Pristina, Split and Skopje airports.

Antwerp: Luxair increases London City

The desire for a day connection has been frequently expressed in the business world. We are therefore pleased to reintroduce the daytime connection from October 30, 2023,” said Antwerp Airport Managing Director Eric Dumas.

Chaos around the new monarch: sometimes no money, sometimes again

Big plans, which were also supposed to lead to the revival of Monarch Airlines, were announced just a few days ago. But the project does not seem to have been particularly well financed, because the money ran out even before the application for AOC and operating license was submitted. But it gets even weirder: Shortly after an official announcement, some of the plans were backtracked. The "new" Monarch has not flown a millimeter. Nor have they even applied for the necessary certificates from the CAA of the United Kingdom. They wanted to do this in the next few weeks in order to be able to join the game with around ten Airbus A2024s in summer 320. This is highly unlikely to happen, because on August 31, 2023, the company had to announce that it had run out of money. The official statement suggests that the financial outlay required to set up and operate an airline was probably massively overestimated. In particular, the wording that the "seed financing" has already been used up indicates severe underfunding from the drawing board: "It is with great regret that we announce today that we are forced to stop the relaunch of Monarch. We have not taken this decision lightly, but since taking over the company two weeks ago we have exhausted the seed financing made available to us much faster than expected. We have looked at alternative avenues, such as a partial sale of the share capital, and will continue to do so, but at this point in time there is no practical way to continue in the immediate future," the company said in a statement.
