Slovenia: Planned state carrier will initially serve eleven destinations

Since the bankruptcy of the airline Adria Airways, there has been no home base carrier at Ljubljana Airport. After lengthy political discussions, a new state-owned airline is to be created. This will initially serve eleven destinations. The Slovenian government initially tried to use subsidies to strengthen existing routes and encourage carriers to start new connections. There was a particularly strong hope that connections to hubs would improve and at the same time as many low-cost airlines as possible would come to Ljubljana. However, the project was not crowned with success, as only one Luxair connection to Luxembourg and one Air Baltic route to Riga were secured. This may have given the "own airline" project an additional boost. Economics Minister Matjaž Han has now declared that the plans will continue to be pushed forward and that the country absolutely needs its own airline. This will initially serve eleven destinations. It was also confirmed that intensive discussions are underway with some providers. These are the Slovenian Amelia International, Cyprus Airways and Croatia Airlines, each of which could act as a strategic partner or shareholder. No decision has yet been made on any of the three interested parties. However, there is confidence that a contract can be signed with at least one company that will lead to the establishment of a new national airline. Government members are currently planning to operate around 60 flights to eleven destinations from Ljubljana in the initial phase. According to official information, these will also include destinations that have not been served since Adria Airways went bankrupt.

Engine problem: 8,5-hour sightseeing flight with Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Frankfurt

The passengers of Lufthansa flight LH8,5 traveled from Frankfurt am Main to Frankfurt am Main in 712 hours on September 13, 2023. The Boeing 747-400 with the registration D-ABTL had a technical problem over the Caspian Sea, which is why the captain decided to return to Germany. The 341 people on board the jumbo jet were actually supposed to go from Frankfurt to Seoul. But this turned into an extensive 8,5-hour round trip from Frankfurt to Frankfurt. There was a technical problem over Kazakhstan that meant that one of the four engines had to be switched off. The reason for this was that the oil pressure had dropped. As a precautionary measure, it was then decided to turn around and fly back to Frankfurt am Main with the remaining three engines. This decision may also have been influenced by the fact that Boeing 747-400 aircraft can easily fly with just three engines. There is also a maintenance location at the home base where technicians can quickly resolve the problems. The D-ABTL landed safely at Frankfurt Airport. The passengers were then rebooked onto other flights to Seoul. The aircraft in question was examined closely by technicians and made fit for flight again. One day later it was able to take off again towards Shanghai as LH732 and reached its destination.
