Demand has fallen noticeably on many routes, so Flixbus has had to react for economic reasons, a media representative explained to the Rheinische Post. They are still demanding that they be included in the 49-euro ticket, from which they have so far been excluded. In Austria, too, the Flixbus routes are not included in the climate ticket. Ibiza: Lufthansa A321 suffers tire burst and blocks runway

On September 16, 2023, Ibiza Airport had to be closed for some time because several tires on an Airbus A321 operated by Lufthansa burst during landing. The aircraft blocked the runway because it had to be towed. The D-AIRU was en route from Frankfurt am Main to the Balearic island under flight number LH1466. The flight was completely unspectacular and purely routine. When touching down on runway 06 at Ibiza Airport, both tires on the right main landing gear burst. The incident occurred shortly after 14:55 p.m. local time. The pilots managed to bring the medium-haul jet to a safe stop. However, it was no longer possible for the D-AIRU to leave the runway under its own power. This meant that the airport had to be temporarily closed due to the blocked runway. Incoming flights were diverted to the neighboring island of Mallorca, among other places. The Lufthansa A321 was later towed and flight operations resumed. Aircraft taking off had to wait for the duration of the ban. The photos embedded below, which were shared on social media, show the extent of the damage to the landing gear. All passengers and crew members were able to leave the aircraft unharmed. How exactly several tires burst at once is now being investigated.

Klagenfurt winter flight schedule 2023/24 even smaller than last year

In a few weeks, the 2023/24 winter flight schedule will also begin in Klagenfurt. The offer this season is extremely limited, as the low-cost airline Ryanair will no longer serve destinations offered in the previous season such as Dublin, Manchester and Charleroi. Eurowings' Cologne/Bonn flights were also discontinued some time ago. Between January 13 and March 2, 2024, Austrian Airlines will offer a non-stop connection between Hamburg and the state capital of Carinthia. This will be served with the Embraer 195 aircraft. Also in the portfolio: the connection to the Vienna-Schwechat hub, which will be served throughout the entire winter period. However, there will be a renewed and in some cases selective reduction in frequencies. Competitor Ryanair had the destinations London-Stansted, Manchester, Dublin and Charleroi in its program from Klagenfurt in winter 2022/23. Only London-Stansted remains for the upcoming season. The summer destinations Alicante and Palma de Mallorca are not served from Carinthia during the cold season. For the 2024 summer flight schedule, Ryanair is considering a possible expansion of connections from Klagenfurt. The Greece charter flights operated by Avanti Air for Springer Reisen will soon expire and go into winter break. Shortly before the flight schedule change, Gruber Reisen will have the Czech Smartwings operate Paphos charters, but this destination will not be served in winter 2023/24 either. From today's perspective, the flight offer is therefore limited to Vienna (AUA) and London-Stansted (Ryanair) with continuous service. Hamburg (AUA) will initially be offered for a few weeks in the new year.

Austrian Airlines denies delays in adding Dreamliner to the fleet

In recent days, rumors have repeatedly circulated that there could be delays in the planned introduction of the Boeing 787-9 aircraft into Austrian Airlines' fleet. The company has denied this. Specifically, it was claimed that Lufthansa itself would need the long-haul aircraft in question and that Austrian Airlines would therefore only be able to take over the coveted Dreamliners later. The consequence of this: the schedule for phasing out the aging existing models would be delayed. However, this is apparently not true. An AUA spokeswoman explained: "Austrian Airlines is working intensively on the introduction of the B787 into its fleet. The arrival of the first Dreamliner is expected for spring 2024, and its commissioning is planned for late summer 2024."
