AUA Technik: 21 apprentices start their vocational training

This year, Austrian Airlines has once again taken on new apprentices in its technical operations. The 21 young people began their vocational training at the beginning of September 2023 and have now been officially welcomed by board member Francesco Sciortino. According to Austrian Airlines, this year - in direct comparison with the previous year - they have been able to fill almost twice as many apprenticeships. Among the new apprentices are a total of five women, one of them is Andrea Aschauer from the Mödling district. "I have always been interested in technology. I chose Austrian Airlines because it is not an everyday apprenticeship - not everyone has the chance to tinker with an aircraft," she says. Together with the other apprentices, Andrea Aschauer is completing the 3,5-year training in the field of "mechatronics manufacturing technology" in the company's own training workshop. The apprentices get involved and, in addition to theoretical training, also complete "training on the job" in the specialist workshops and in aircraft maintenance, manufacture mechatronic components and gain knowledge in metal processing. "The training and support of young people has a long tradition at Austrian and is close to our hearts. With our apprentices, we bring young talent and innovative strength into our company," says COO Francesco Sciortino. The company has been training apprentices for over 25 years.

Summer 2023: 106,7 million air travelers across Europe delayed

The summer holidays in Germany are officially over. Last Monday, classes also started again in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Airhelp, the world's largest organisation for air passenger rights, takes stock: In June, July and August, around 106,7 million air travellers in Europe were affected by flight problems, 10,5 million of whom were departing from Germany. In this year's summer months, strikes and staff shortages have again led to problems at European airports. The situation was particularly tense in Serbia. Around 51 percent of passengers here had to contend with delays or cancellations. Similar problems occurred with departures from Malta, where around 48 percent of all passengers were affected by complications - last year Malta had the fewest delays and cancellations with a rate of 19 percent. Slovenia came in third place among the countries with the most flight problems with 45 percent. There were also particularly many difficulties in Greece and Turkey, where around 44 and 42 percent of passengers respectively departed late. Germany ranks 37th with 14 percent. In Finland (20 percent), Norway (20 percent) and Estonia (21 percent), departures were particularly punctual compared to other European countries. There were also comparatively few delays in Lithuania (21 percent) and Kosovo (26 percent). With a total of around 15,6 million delayed passengers, the most delayed passengers in Europe departed from Great Britain. Turkey and Italy are in second and third place in the European comparison of absolute numbers with 11,9 and 11,6 million passengers respectively. Germany follows France (10,9 million passengers) in fifth place: With 10,5 million delayed passengers,

Austria: Federal Army receives four Embraer C-390s

After years of discussions, the Austrian federal government announced on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, that it would replace the aging Lockheed C-130 "Hercules" transport aircraft with Embraer C-390s. About 20 years ago, the decision-makers at the Ministry of Defense at the time decided that used C-130s would be purchased. These are now up to 56 years old. While in civil aviation one would speak of historic aircraft, in the military it is quite common for aircraft to have very long service lives. Completely independent of this, both the Federal Army and the Ministry of Defense have long known that the oldies need to be replaced. This process has so far progressed very slowly. Now it has been announced that the decision has been made in favor of the Brazilian Embraer C-390 model. All planning will be based on this model, announced Major General Harald Vodosek and Minister Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP) at a press conference on Wednesday. "True to our motto 'Mission Forward', we can now finally announce another major milestone for our air force. Since 2003, the three 'Hercules' aircraft have completed many missions and have always been a reliable transport device for our soldiers. Now it is time for the Embraer C-390 to replace the C-130 'Hercules'. The Embraer aircraft system is the only one in the 20-ton class that meets all of our requirements. With this purchase, we are taking another big step towards a modern army and thus greater security for the Austrian population," said Tanner. It is currently planned that four
