Afghanistan: Flydubai returns to Kabul

Emirates sister company Flydubai is the first international airline to announce that it will fly to Kabul again in the future. From November 15, 2023, the plan is to connect the capital of Afghanistan with Dubai again. In 2021, the armed forces of the USA and its NATO partners said goodbye to Afghanistan in a chaotic manner. This enabled the Taliban to take power within a few days without any significant resistance. Many people wanted to flee the country because they were extremely afraid of reprisals. Most evacuation flights were carried out by the military. Only a few carriers currently fly to airports in Afghanistan. Flydubai is now the first major carrier to announce its comeback. With effect from November 15, 2023, the airline plans to commute between the capitals Kabul and Dubai up to twice a day. As a rule, medium-haul Boeing 737-800 jets will be used. At the moment, the number of flights from Kabul is very limited. Many carriers are still cautious due to security concerns. The Afghan consulate in Dubai said, among other things, that it hopes that other carriers will gradually follow Flydubai. This would be of particular importance for Afghanistan's connectivity and recovery.

Panama: Copa Airlines had to turn back due to incontinence briefs

On Friday, October 13, 2023, an unusual incident occurred on Copa Airlines flight CM393 en route from Panama to Tampa. The captain decided to land back because of a suspicious object that turned out to be a harmless pair of incontinence briefs. The Boeing 737-8V3 with the registration HP-1832CMP was in use. Shortly after takeoff, the cabin crew found a "suspicious object" in one of the toilets. As required, the captain was immediately informed, who then decided to turn around out of sheer caution. The plane landed safely at Panama City Airport shortly afterwards. The situation was also unclear because there was a rumor that day that there had supposedly been a bomb threat against a flight. At that time, however, the crew had no concrete warning. Nevertheless, they played it safe and returned as a precaution. After landing, the 144 passengers and crew were asked by the police to disembark. All persons and luggage were searched meticulously. Explosives experts from the police carefully examined the "suspicious object" in the toilet and were then able to give the all-clear. It was simply an incontinence brief, colloquially known as an adult diaper. With a certain amount of humor, the passengers and crew were able to board the flight to Tampa at the second attempt. In any case, they were assured that the incontinence brief, which the police had officially disposed of, posed no danger. Incidentally, it was not explicitly stated whether the brief was used or unused.
