Edelweiss names Airbus A340-300 “Flumserberg”

The holiday airline Edelweiss Air has given the Airbus A340-300 with the registration HB-JMC the christening name "Flumserberg". The traditional christening ceremony was carried out by Maite Nadig, former ski racer and double Olympic champion, and David Birrer, Chief Operating Officer of Edelweiss, in the presence of representatives of Bergbahnen Flumserberg AG. The ceremony was accompanied musically by the brass players of the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra. There is a reason for this, because in summer 2024 the St. Gallen Festival will take place for the first time on the Flumserberg, which gives the Airbus A340 its name. The HB-JMC was delivered to sister company Swiss in October 2023. There the four-engine aircraft flew under the christening name "Basel" for many years. In April 2023, this Airbus A340-300 was handed over to Edelweiss Air and has now been "rechristened" with its current name. "Finding a sponsor region in Switzerland where the rare edelweiss actually blooms is becoming increasingly difficult. But we have done it again and are delighted that the canton of St. Gallen is now represented in our fleet with the Flumserberg," says David Birrer. As a sign of the partnership, the representatives of Flumserberg are placing an Edelweiss wooden bench in the shape of an airplane seat. On this, passers-by can enjoy the most beautiful views towards Zurich Airport and dream of their next vacation. Almost like in an airplane. The photo slideshow below shows some impressions of the christening ceremony:

Three Alpine Club huts have been awarded an environmental seal

For over 25 years, the Alpine clubs have been awarding their strict environmental seal of quality to those Alpine club huts that live up to the idea of sustainable, climate-friendly operations. Especially in challenging times when saving energy is the order of the day, resource-saving and sustainable working methods are becoming more and more important. At its 2023 Annual General Meeting, the Austrian Alpine Club brought three very special huts to the fore: The Arthur von Schmid House (Ankogel Group, 2.281 m), the Franz Senn Hut (Stubai Alps, 2.147 m) and the Freschen House (Bregenzerwald Mountains, 1.846 m) were awarded the environmental seal of quality for their outstanding ecological commitment. With its mountain huts, the Austrian Alpine Club is one of the largest accommodation providers in the Alpine region. In the interests of environmental protection, it wants to develop its huts into exemplary accommodation establishments. The aim: to keep the climate footprint of the huts as small as possible. Due to their island location in largely undeveloped areas, the idea of "avoidance and reduction" has always been a constant, indispensable companion from the planning to the maintenance of the refuges. "From an ecological point of view, our huts are exemplary. This is already a result of the difficult conditions on the mountain," says Andreas Ermacora, President of the Austrian Alpine Association. An incentive that motivates sections and hut tenants even more to make their hut operations as environmentally friendly and energy efficient as possible is the award of the environmental quality seal since 1996 - a seal that is only awarded after a comprehensive review. In order to receive the environmental quality seal, factors such as energy efficiency and supply, waste water treatment, waste prevention and disposal or a clean hut environment are crucial. "Energy has always been a valuable and rare commodity. Intelligently managed
