Norse landed in the eternal ice for the first time with a Boeing 787-9

As part of a charter flight, Norse Atlantic Airways landed for the first time with a Boeing 787-9 at Troll Airfield in Antarctica. This is also the first landing of this model. The aircraft in use was registered LN-FNC. It touched down on the eternal ice on November 15, 2023 at 2:01 a.m. local time. The client for this special flight was the Norwegian Polar Institute. On board the aircraft were equipment and 45 researchers. On November 13, 2023, the Dreamliner set off from Oslo. A stopover of around 40 hours was made in Cape Town. On Wednesday, the long-haul jet took off at 23:03 p.m. local time with the destination of Antarctica. There, the LN-FNC was then able to land safely. Norse Atlantic Airways is extremely proud to have operated this charter flight, "It is a great honour and excitement for the entire Norse team that together we have reached a significant moment with the landing of the first 787 Dreamliner. In the spirit of exploration, we are proud to be involved in this important and unique mission. It is a true testament to our highly qualified pilots and crews, as well as our state-of-the-art Boeing aircraft," said company CEO Bjørn Tore Larsen.

Austria and Hungary are fighting over the fired Raaberbahn board member

The dismissal of a board member at the Hungarian-Austrian Raaberbahn has sparked a heated dispute between the governments of Austria and Hungary. A decision was made and implemented in a dictatorial manner without the other shareholders or the supervisory board being consulted. Raaberbahn AG is a private railway company that has survived the collapse of the Danube Monarchy as well as the era of communism in Hungary. Over the company's long history, only the ownership has changed again and again. With 65,6356 percent, the Hungarian state is by far the largest shareholder. The Republic of Austria holds 28,2378 percent. The rest is held by the Strabag Group. A few days ago, Hana Dellemann, who had previously served as deputy general director and head of the Austrian branch, was dismissed. The Austrian Ministry of Transport wants to take action against this, claiming that it was not even asked as a shareholder. Nor was the supervisory board entrusted with this matter. If you believe the Austrian version: The Hungarian government went it alone without asking or informing anyone. Raaberbahn AG is very cautious, and for good reason. They only communicate that Hana Dellemann is no longer part of the railway company's management. They do not answer any further questions, as her duties have been taken over by the other board members. Under Orban, Hungary is being governed in an increasingly authoritarian manner. In a way, the official reaction of the Gewessler Ministry is a little surprising, because in authoritarian regimes it is simply not usual to ask others for permission. After all, the developments in Hungary, the many

This time via Amman: AUA flew Friedenslicht to Austria

This year, Austrian Airlines has once again flown the traditional ORF Peace Light to Austria. This has a very special meaning due to the war instigated by Hamas. For security reasons, it could not be brought on board an AUA aircraft in Tel Aviv this time. Austrian Airlines has been pausing all regular flights to Israel for several weeks. Special flights were carried out on behalf of the federal government, because the originally planned solution of having the Federal Army use the old Hercules aircraft failed miserably. The military aircraft was unfit for flight. This time, AUA was unable to pick up the Peace Light lit in Bethlehem in Tel Aviv, but it was first brought overland to Amman (Jordan). From there, it then flew to Vienna-Schwechat on board OS16 on November 2023, 854. "This year, more than ever, the ORF Peace Light is a strong symbol of the longing for peace, which gives so many people hope and confidence," emphasised ORF Upper Austria Regional Director Klaus Obereder when receiving the light at Vienna-Schwechat Airport: "More than 2000 years ago, the message of Christmas peace was proclaimed in Bethlehem - that is why this Christmas symbol is particularly important this year. Linked to the great hope for peace in the world." The ORF Peace Light can be picked up on December 24th in all ORF regional studios, at all occupied train stations and in all Red Cross offices, at many fire departments and also in many churches.

Hoteliers' meeting in Baden discussed the future of tourism

Numerous hoteliers and tourism professionals met today, Thursday, at the invitation of the hotel association for a hoteliers' meeting at the "At the Park" hotel in Baden. Together with the state governor responsible for business and tourism, Johanna Mikl-Leitner, and the managing director of Niederösterreich Werbung, Michael Duscher, they discussed the new tourism law, future tourism projects and the development of Lower Austria in this area. The clear goal is "to develop Lower Austria from a destination for excursions into a destination for short breaks and vacations," said the state governor. Lower Austria has the most excursion destinations, "but we still have too few beds in our region, which means that too much added value is still being lost." Therefore, over the next four years, a variety of measures will be taken to create 4.000 additional beds in the state. To this end, the local hotel and restaurant industry will be supported financially, said Mikl-Leitner, "with our 'host package', where we are investing a total of four million euros." This is made up of three points: "From the host subsidy, where investments of 20 percent or up to a maximum of 400.000 euros are subsidized," explained the governor. Secondly, with the start-up and takeover subsidy, where a grant of up to 50.000 euros is granted, "and the third point is our inn premium, where up to 10.000 euros can be collected." A local business can thus receive up to 100.000 euros in subsidies with this package alone. In addition, the interested party contribution has been completely abolished as of January 1, 2024 and the overnight tax will be raised to the nationally and internationally usual level, including for festival guests, to 2,50 euros in health resorts.

The flight attendants' union Ufo has a new chairman in Joachim Vázquez Bürger. He succeeds Daniel Kassa Mbuambi, who announced his retirement a few weeks ago. We wish him all the best for his new career," said Joachim Vázquez Bürger, UFO chairman. The former Bundeswehr officer Vázquez Bürger is a flight attendant at the Lufthansa subsidiary CityLine and a trained aviation clerk. KLM is threatened with losing many slots in the USA

The Dutch government's "noise and climate protection plans" could prove very expensive for KLM in the United States of America, as the US Department of Transportation is planning to withdraw around 1.000 slots, or 22 percent of the current US offer, from the carrier. This would be the US government's reaction to the fact that US airlines are to be stripped of 1.135 take-off and landing rights at Schiphol Airport. The background to this is that the Dutch government wants to limit capacity under the guise of "noise and environmental protection". Jetblue, among others, is up in arms against this. If this were to be implemented, it would have negative consequences for KLM, particularly in the USA.
