Three routes: Wizz Air returns to Salzburg

The low-cost airline Wizz Air announces its comeback in Salzburg after a long absence. From February 2024, three destinations will be gradually served from Austria's second largest airport. They are London-Luton, Bucharest and Skopje. "We are delighted to be resuming the long-awaited flights from Salzburg to Bucharest and Skopje, as well as introducing a new route to London. This expansion brings Europe's most sustainable airline to Salzburg and offers travelers three exciting destinations and the opportunity to explore remarkable and iconic capitals with Wizz Air. We can't wait to launch these routes and offer our Austrian passengers low fares with the highest quality on board," says Valeria Bragarenco, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air. In the summer of 2020, the low-cost airline surprised everyone by adding some routes from Salzburg at short notice. Destinations such as St. Petersburg and Kyiv-Zhuliany were also announced at the time. But that never happened, because even the destinations in Southeast Europe that were offered for a short time were quietly discontinued after only a few rotations. The comeback in Salzburg was repeatedly postponed over a longer period of time. At times, representatives of the company even said that it might not happen at all. Now Wizz Air wants to offer three weekly London-Luton rotations from February 8, 2024. These are to be operated on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. From April 1, 2024, there will be three Skopje rotations per week. The flight days are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. From April 2, 2024, flights to Bucharest will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. In contrast to Vienna, in

Austrian Airlines wants to make itself attractive to Carinthian travel agencies

On November 22, 2023, Klagenfurt Airport invited representatives of travel agencies, the airport and Austrian Airlines to an industry meeting. The main aim was to promote the transfer options via Vienna-Schwechat. Klagenfurt Airport is currently only connected to the Vienna-Schwechat hub. There are no other hub connections. In the past, things were different, as there were also feeder flights to Munich and Frankfurt am Main, for example. The point-to-point area is also rather poor in winter 2023/24. Ryanair will serve London-Stansted and Austrian Airlines will serve Hamburg for a few weeks. During a relaxed lunchtime meeting, Alexander Schnecke, Director Corporate Sales, and Bernhard Hamela, District Key Account Manager, informed the representatives of Carinthian travel agencies and corporate customers present about news at Austrian Airlines. "We consider it extremely important to give our Carinthian sales partners first-hand information. Today we informed you about news in the entire route network and the good transfer connections of Austrian Airlines and the Lufthansa Group via the Vienna hub," said Alexander Schnecke of Austrian Airlines. "The Carinthian travel agencies and corporate travel offices are indispensable partners for us and our important airline customer Austrian Airlines. Attractive European cities and popular holiday destinations in the Mediterranean can be reached from Klagenfurt via the Vienna hub with short transfer times and attractive through fares," said Klagenfurt Airport Director Maximilian Wildt.
