Tokyo: Air Japan has operated its first scheduled Dreamliner flight

On February 9, 2024, the ANA subsidiary Air Japan operated the first flight with the new business model as a low-cost airline. This went from Tokyo (Narita) to Bangkok. The former regional airline Air Japan was converted into a low-cost airline that will concentrate on medium and long-haul flights. Initially, the airline started with Boeing 787-8s. The parent company ANA Holdings hopes that the new low-cost airline will be able to transport additional tourists to/from Japan. The first flight took off from Tokyo Narita Airport on February 9, 2024 at around 18:45 p.m. under flight number NQ1. The long-haul aircraft reached the Thai capital airport Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) at around 23:30 p.m. This route will initially be served six times a week with Boeing 787-8s. The start of another route has been announced for February 22, 2024. This will run from Tokyo-Narita to Seoul (Incheon). From February 26, 2024, Air Japan will also set course for Singapore from Narita. The Boeing 787-8 aircraft have pure economy class seating. Unlike the parent company, no different classes of travel are offered in terms of seats. ANA Holdings emphasized in a media statement that the legroom should be on a par with its sister company All Nippon Airways. ANA Holdings currently has three airlines that operate under its own brand. These are All Nippon Airways, which is positioned as a full-service carrier, the low-cost airline Peach, which operates domestically and on short-haul routes, and the new Air Japan, which focuses on low-cost medium and long-haul routes. India: Spicejet cuts another 1.400 jobs

The Indian budget airline Spicejet intends to significantly reduce its workforce. Around 1.400 jobs are to be cut. The airline claims that this step was due to pressure from investors. Spicejet's financial situation has been strained for several years. Creditors repeatedly file for bankruptcy against the company and occasionally aircraft are temporarily grounded. Now the company wants to reduce salary costs and intends to reduce the workforce by 15 percent. Around 1.400 employees are to be laid off. According to a report in the Economic Times, the Indian budget airline currently has around 9.000 employees. From the perspective of investors who keep the carrier in the air, this is said to be too expensive and pressure has therefore been put on management. There is talk that streamlining should lead to the optimization of processes. When asked, Spicejet confirmed that the measure has already begun. Among other things, a spokesperson who confirmed the Economic Times report said: "We want to ensure that company-wide costs are aligned with operational requirements." This is not the first job cut, as around 16.000 people worked for Spicejet before the coronavirus pandemic. The fleet has since been reduced from 115 aircraft to just 30 that are still in active scheduled service. The remaining aircraft have not been in the air for a long time or have been returned to the lessors - sometimes not entirely voluntarily.

News in the Erfurt summer flight schedule 2024

There are a number of new routes from Erfurt in the 2024 summer flight schedule. The company is also becoming increasingly established in the area of commercial aircraft maintenance. New to the flight schedule are the airlines Eurowings with flights to Mallorca, Aegean Airlines to Heraklion and Flylili to Burgas. Three new airlines, Mavi Gök, Freebird and Air Anka, will be flying regularly to the Turkish Riviera, which is popular with holidaymakers, i.e. to Antalya. In addition, the familiar faces of holiday aviation such as Corendon Airlines and Corendon Europe will continue to connect the Thuringian state airport with holiday and special destinations. Smartwings, Sundair, Volotea and possibly other airlines will be used here later in the year. Over 3 airlines are expected at Erfurt-Weimar Airport this year. Airport manager Gerd Stöwer said: "We welcome the fact that more and more airlines are interested in Erfurt-Weimar Airport and that we can therefore offer our customers a wide range of services." The same applies, Stöwer continued, to the many well-known tour operators who are expanding their services from Erfurt this summer. In addition to the connections of large tourist aviation, other aircraft of the so-called business aviation fly to the state airport every day. In addition, there are arrivals and departures in the ambulance sector and finally the flights of the Thuringia police helicopter squadron. In addition to passenger flights, the airport is developing into an important European location for aircraft maintenance. The aircraft maintenance company HANGAR 10 Aircraft Maintenance GmbH has now rented 901 large aircraft hangars from the airport and maintains up to 2 large aircraft there at the same time with up to 150 employees. Airport manager Gerd Stöwer said

German travel agencies: More sales with fewer bookings

In January 2024, German travel agencies recorded a 9,4 percent increase in sales in the tourism sector (including cruises) in direct comparison with the same month last year. However, it was not air travel but cruises that catapulted the result upwards. The reason for this is likely to be increased prices from service providers, as the number of trips arranged was declining. Stationary travel agencies play a rather subordinate role in the area of airline tickets, as many passengers book them either directly with the airline or via OTAs themselves on the Internet. Only a few travelers go to stationary agencies in person to purchase their tickets there. However, many travel agencies have a mainstay here that should not be underestimated, as they also act as "outsourced travel offices" for companies. In the area of package tours and cruises, stationary agencies have the upper hand over direct sales or internet competition. The Corona pandemic has even led to a significant proportion of customers who previously booked online buying their next trip in a nearby stationary agency. There are many reasons for this, but the factor of having a personal contact on site in case of an emergency is probably the most important decision criterion for many. In January 2024, German travel agencies recorded a 27,1 percent increase in brokerage in the cruise sector. In the area of package tours, brokered sales rose by 14,1 percent compared to the same month last year. Overall, 12,7 percent more trips were sold than in January 2024. Including all business areas of the German agencies, an increase of 4,6 percent was recorded. If you look at the figures from the service provider Tats, which were published in the latest travel agency report,
