The German holiday airline Condor will be offering non-stop flights from Frankfurt am Main to Los Cabos (Mexico) for the first time in the 2024 winter flight schedule. The destination is located on the southern tip of the Mexican state of Baja California Sur. From November 3, 2024, Condor initially intends to fly between the two cities twice a week with an Airbus A330-900. The flights are to be operated on Wednesdays and Sundays. Royal Brunei Airlines continues to expand its Dreamliner fleet

Royal Brunei Airlines announced at the Singapore Air Show that it will be expanding its long-haul fleet. To do so, it has ordered four B787-9s from Boeing. The carrier currently has five Boeing 787-8s. The four additional aircraft have higher capacity and are primarily intended to be used to expand long-haul traffic. The smaller B787-8 is currently used primarily to fly to Australia, Asia, the United Kingdom and the Middle East. "The impending arrival of the 787-9 Dreamliner symbolizes a bold step forward on our path to innovation and excellence. Royal Brunei Airlines has been operating the 787-8 for the past 10 years, and with this order we are ensuring that we continue to operate a product that our customers value. In our constant endeavour to provide our guests with unparalleled service with the highest safety standards, the new fleet will enable us to develop new growth areas, strengthen our market attractiveness and offer our guests an excellent travel experience," explains Sabirin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Managing Director of Royal Brunei Airlines. For the manufacturer Boeing, the relatively small order is also symbolically important. The carrier was the launch customer in this geographical region some time ago. "By renewing its investment in the 787 Dreamliner, Royal Brunei Airlines will continue to connect Brunei with the world while offering passengers the service and comfort that the airline is known for. The 787-9 will offer the versatility, efficiency and range that Royal Brunei Airlines needs to meet the growing opportunities in air travel.

Where are we actually? There are hardly any flight route maps anymore

It happened in 1957: Walter Faber was flying a US airline Super Constellation from New York via Houston to Mexico City. Over the Gulf of Mexico, one of the left engines stopped. The passengers were asked to put on their life jackets as a precaution, but: "There is no danger at all." The captain did not want to make a safety landing, preferring to fly straight on to Mexico City, no problem with three engines running. Faber wanted to know where the plane was, but "there was no decent map, like the ones that Swissair always has to hand." Then lunch was served. But during the meal, a second engine stopped. Panic reigned on board. The captain then decided to make an emergency landing in the Tamaulipas desert. If you want to know what happened next, read "Homo Faber" by Max Frisch. The exact route maps that Walter Faber talks about are of little interest to almost no one today. Most passengers in the far too narrow rows of seats are hoping that it will all be over soon, and most of them don't care which areas they fly over. In-flight magazines with route maps Many airlines have long since done away with their in-flight magazines and overhead screens, perhaps for financial or weight reasons, but very few have really regretted it. And those that still offer an in-flight magazine show their route network on greatly simplified maps at large scales with only straight connecting lines. What a difference to today: In an Austrian in-flight magazine from 1986 (see picture 1), the flight routes in the Mediterranean region are shown in a fairly comprehensible way at a scale of 1:5 - depending on the
