Vienna: Ryanair suspends Tel Aviv indefinitely

The low-cost airline Ryanair will not be offering Tel Aviv flights from numerous airports, including Vienna-Schwechat, for an indefinite period of time. Capacity will be shifted to other routes, which will be increased. According to the current state of affairs, Ryanair will not be offering Tel Aviv flights from the DA-CH region, among others, in the 2024 summer flight schedule. It was originally said that there would only be a temporary flight break due to the fee dispute in Israel, but this situation seems to be lasting longer. The airports affected by the suspension include Vienna-Schwechat, Berlin, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, Memmingen and numerous other airports. Ryanair intends to return to Tel Aviv at a later date, but at the earliest when Terminal 1, which has lower fees, is put back into operation. Competitor Wizz Air maintains selected routes to the Israeli metropolis, but points out during the booking process that the additional costs for using Terminal 3 will be passed on to passengers.

Drunk: Delta pilot receives ten-month prison sentence

The Delta Air Lines pilot who showed up drunk at Edinburgh Airport in June 2023 was sentenced to ten months in prison by a Scottish court. The pilot pleaded guilty during the trial. In June 2023, the experienced Delta pilot was scheduled to command a passenger flight from Edinburgh to New York. However, he was found heavily intoxicated during a routine check. There were also two large bottles of Jägermeister in his hand luggage, one of which was open. The police immediately arrested the man. Delta subsequently suspended the now 64-year-old captain. The case was recently heard before the relevant court in Edinburgh. The former captain pleaded guilty from the outset, which was ultimately interpreted as a mitigating factor. He was also able to prove that he had voluntarily undergone therapy in the meantime. The court did not announce a decision after the first hearing, but instead called for the verdict to be announced on March 19, 2024. The former Delta captain was sentenced to ten months in prison and to pay the legal costs. It is still unclear whether the prosecutor and/or the person concerned will appeal against the court's decision. No explanations were given in this regard. The prison sentence will not be suspended. However, a much higher sentence would have been possible, but the defendant's guilty plea and the fact that he had already undergone therapy were interpreted as mitigating factors. In June 2023, the man was supposed to command Delta flight DL209 from Edinburgh to New York-JFK. He would have been in charge of a Boeing 767-300ER, the passengers and the other

Stuttgart Airport is building another solar park

Stuttgart Airport has announced that the seventh photovoltaic system is currently being built on the site. This is scheduled to go into operation in spring 2024. The 912 modules with an area of around 2.300 m² are expected to generate around 530.000 kWh of electricity annually. Japan Airlines wants to order 24 long-haul aircraft

Oneworld member Japan Airlines is said to be about to place a major order for its long-haul fleet. The group is said to be particularly interested in the Boeing 787 aircraft, but alternatives are also being considered. According to local media reports, Japan Airlines is about to order 24 additional long-haul aircraft. Reuters News writes that at least some of these will be Boeing 787 aircraft. The carrier currently operates 22 B787-9s and 23 B787-8s. Japan Airlines itself has not yet commented on the reports. Airbus and Boeing also declined to comment when asked. However, it can be assumed that a decision could be made in the foreseeable future, as the Oneworld member has initially postponed a long-planned reorder of long-haul aircraft due to the corona pandemic. According to reports, demand in the island state has increased enormously. Now it seems that the time is right to order successor aircraft for the aging Boeing 767. Apparently, the only thing that is certain is that a few more Dreamliners will be ordered, but other models, including those from the manufacturer Airbus, are also being considered. Japan Airlines has not yet made a final decision on this, or does not want to share it with the public. Just last year, Japan Airlines ordered a total of 21 Boeing 737-Max-8s, which will be used to renew and expand its short- and medium-haul fleet. At the time, it was said that decisions on the upcoming long-haul orders would also be made within the next six to 12 months.

Easyjet has opened a new base in Birmingham

The low-cost airline Easyjet has opened a new base in the United Kingdom after more than ten years. This is the ninth base that the British low-cost airline has in its home country. From Birmingham, Easyjet will gradually add 2024 additional routes in the 16 summer flight schedule. These will mostly be operated with aircraft stationed on site. According to the company, 140 of its own employees will be employed at the new base. The company plans to significantly increase the frequencies on some existing routes. Easyjet also justifies the opening of the base by saying that around 83 percent of the residents of Wales and England can reach this airport within a two-hour drive by car. Furthermore, it would be an important economic area of the United Kingdom. In this region alone, the economy would be larger and stronger than that of the entire Hungarian state, which is considered to be massively structurally weak. "Today, our growing partnership with EasyJet has reached a new high point, as the airline is stationing three aircraft here at Birmingham Airport. Customers can now take advantage of the airline's 16 new routes and have the flexibility to book just one flight or a complete package holiday. EasyJet has been a partner airline for 17 years. Their expansion here at Birmingham Airport is testament to the service, quality, price, reliability and choice of destinations that customers expect from EasyJet," explains Birmingham Managing Director Nick Barton. Easyjet already had Birmingham Airport in its route network, but had not previously had any aircraft based there. The decision to open the base was also due to the fact that there was great
