Deutsche Bahn AG no longer wants school trips

By the end of 2024, Deutsche Bahn AG will discontinue its “school trips and group travel” division, which has existed for half a century. This was set up during the days of Deutsche Bundesbahn and has been used by many schools and their students over the decades. It is a type of special tour operator where school trips tailored to the needs of schools can be booked from a single source. Most of the offers are within Germany and include travel by train, accommodation and, if necessary, transfers and excursions. Deutsche Bahn AG and its legal predecessor Deutsche Bundesbahn have made a lot of money with school trips for decades. In the future, they only want to offer this customer segment tickets, but no longer offer trips from a single source. The focus in the future will be on group trips outside of schools. Apparently, the state-owned DB Group is no longer interested in classic school trips. In any case, they no longer want to offer schools package deals in the future and point out in a statement that there are enough alternative tour operators and travel agencies on the market. Specifically with regard to school trips, it was said that in future you will only be able to contact the railway for tickets. Anyone who wants packages with overnight accommodation and, if necessary, transfers should then contact cooperation partners. This also means that it could inevitably become more expensive, because the "partners" also want to earn money and have to buy services from Deutsche Bahn. It can be assumed that a surcharge will be factored in, because otherwise the business would not be profitable for the unspecified "cooperation partners". It is

Easter holidays 2024: Cologne/Bonn Airport expects 460.000 passengers

Cologne/Bonn Airport is expecting around 2024 passengers during the 460.00 Easter holidays. Around 33.000 passengers are expected next Friday. "The start to the year has been very successful in Cologne/Bonn. In the first few months we had significantly more passengers than in the same period last year. Now we are looking forward to the peak travel season, which traditionally begins around Easter and lasts until autumn," says Thilo Schmid, CEO of Cologne/Bonn Airport GmbH. "As an airport, we have worked with our process partners to prepare specifically for the increasing number of passengers in order to give our guests a pleasant start to their vacation." On the first holiday weekend, around 77.000 passengers are expected in Cologne/Bonn from Friday to Sunday. Over the Easter weekend - from Good Friday to Easter Monday inclusive - there will be around 107.000 passengers. On Easter Sunday, the airport will also switch from the winter to the summer flight schedule. On the last weekend of the holidays, around 97.000 travellers are expected to use the airport from Friday to Sunday. The peak day during the holidays is Friday, April 5, when more than 33.000 passengers will take off and land in Cologne/Bonn. The most popular travel destination during the Easter holidays is Spain with around 110.000 passengers. Of these, around 49.000 passengers chose Palma de Mallorca as their destination from Cologne/Bonn during the two weeks. Many passengers are also drawn to Turkey (around 100.000 passengers), Great Britain (around 38.000 passengers) and Italy (around 37.000 passengers) during the holidays.

Racism: British Airways fires two flight attendants

Two flight attendants from British Airways should have thought better about what they were sharing on social media. A video in which they mock Asian passengers, squint and imitate the Chinese accent has now cost them both their jobs. In the video, which according to British media reports is said to be racially motivated, the flight attendants make fun of a Chinese family who were on board a flight on which they were serving. They imitate supposed "squinting", laugh at them and make fun of their "Chinese accent". The recording, which was made by the flight attendants themselves and shared on social media, is said to have caused horror within British Airways. Numerous flight attendants are said to be extremely angry with their now ex-colleagues. Management has already pulled the ripcord. When asked, the company confirmed that the two cabin crew members had been dismissed without notice. British Airways does not tolerate any form of racism. But the video caused a stir not only within the airline, but also nationally and internationally. Numerous media outlets reported on it and it was controversially discussed on social media. It should be noted in this context that on some platforms on which it was shared, there were some extremely racist and xenophobic comments from users. The vast majority, however, were shocked by the video. British Airways believes that the two flight attendants have caused enormous damage to the carrier's image by publishing their recording. Accordingly, it is not surprising that the decision may not be taken to dismiss the airline without notice.

UFO clearly against restricting the right to strike

The flight attendants' union Ufo is reacting to the latest calls from politicians and business that the right to strike in the transport sector should be restricted. The employee representatives have clearly rejected this. Joachim Vázquez Bürger, chairman of UFO, said: "In Germany we are conducting a dangerous fake debate about supposedly necessary restrictions on the right to strike. The unbridled forces of the free market economy are driving the spiral of unfair distribution of wealth ever faster. Financial elites always profit, whether in boom times or economic crises. The rich are getting richer. The little people are paying the price. The value of work is falling rapidly. The so-called 'skilled worker shortage' in Germany is an expression of wages that are too low for increasingly stressful working conditions and at the same time the cost of living is exploding. This can only be countered by increasing wages. The unrestricted right to strike is the only effective lever for forcing decent wages for decent work if negotiations do not achieve the goal."
