Memmingen: Allgate now under double leadership

The handling subsidiary of the Bavarian Memmingen Airport will in future be managed by Ralf Schmid and Marcel Schütz. Responsible for handling airlines as well as check-in, baggage management and the operation of the Travel Value Shop, the 100% airport subsidiary Allgate GmbH has continuously increased its number of employees in recent years. It now has over 140 employees. "As the team has grown, the management tasks have also increased significantly," explains Ralf Schmid, who is also the managing director of Flughafen Memmingen GmbH and Allgate. For this reason, the decision has now been made to appoint Marcel Schütz, the previous Allgate authorized signatory, as the second managing director. Despite being only 39 years old, the business economist is one of the veterans of Memmingen Airport. He started 18 years ago as the first dual student at DHBW Ravensburg and continues to be responsible for flight operations, fire service, security and airline sales as an authorized signatory of Flughafen GmbH. Allgate's young management team is completed by Ground Operations Manager Saida Rauscher, Passenger Handling Manager Nadine Holzmann – both of whom were trained at the airport in Memmingen – and Timo Korz as the responsible Ramp Handling Manager.

Michael O'Leary wants to expand Lauda's A320 fleet

For decades, the Ryanair Group has relied almost exclusively on the Boeing 737 aircraft. With the acquisition of the former Laudamotion, Airbus A320s were also added to the group's fleet. Since then, managers have made contradictory statements about the future of this aircraft type, which seems almost a little "exotic" given the small number of units. For many years, only Boeing 737-800s were in the air for Ryanair. The uniform fleet has the advantage, for example, that the aircraft can be exchanged at will. If they are swapped at short notice, nothing changes in terms of capacity. The successor model, the Boeing 737-Max-200, is currently in the fleet phase. B737-Max-10s will also be added in the foreseeable future. But what will happen to the Airbus A320s operated by Lauda Europe? Shortly after the takeover of the former Laudamotion, it was stated several times that negotiations were underway with the European aircraft manufacturer about ordering A320neos and A321neos. Summary: Nothing has been ordered so far - neither directly from Airbus nor through lessors. However, the leasing contracts for the existing A320ceo fleet have been repeatedly extended. A few months ago, Ryanair published its fleet strategy until the middle of the next decade. This revealed that it does not plan to use Airbus A320s in the long term. As a result, Lauda Europe will gradually return the affected jets to the lessors. CEO Michael O'Leary has repeatedly said that Lauda Europe will switch to Boeing 737s unless it can get Airbus A320neos cheaply. Lauda Europe CEO David O'Brien said in a conversation with Aviation.Direct some time ago that the carrier he manages is looking for new aircraft such as

Mönchengladbach: Airport wants to expand renewable energies

Mönchengladbach Airport and Wolong Emea Germany GmbH have signed a cooperation agreement to encourage companies to use renewable energies on the airport site. Wolong and MGL Airport are pooling their individual experience from the aviation sector and the energy industry. The aim is to build up know-how for sustainable airport operations and to develop appropriate operating concepts for MGL Airport. They are working on this in a consortium together with other companies. The focus is on the use of renewable energies, especially solar energy and hydrogen. The core area is the optimal use of solar energy, applications for electrochemical storage and the development of a hydrogen ecosystem. "The cooperation with Wolong is an important step towards climate-resilient airport operations," says MGL Managing Director Andreas Ungar. "We are making MGL fit for the future and thus creating the framework for further economic growth at and around Mönchengladbach Airport." This strategic cooperation has received a lot of attention and support in the Wolong ATB Group. "It is a milestone for Wolong Renewable Energy in Germany and, in the long term, on the European market. Based on Wolong ATB's technology accumulation and comprehensive solution advantages in the entire field of renewable energies, the Wolong ATB New Energy Business Unit will work with Airport MGL to develop a concept for a sustainable and optimal green energy solution for the airport," explains Tiantian Li, Head of the Wolong ATB New Energy Business Unit.
