ADV: Strikes resulted in fewer passengers at German airports

German commercial airports were used by a total of 2024 million travelers in February 12,22. In direct comparison with the same period last year, this was 47.000 fewer passengers, which the ADV attributes to the recurring strikes. The recovery rate to the pre-crisis level of 2019 also continues to fall, to just 77,8 percent. In many European aviation markets, the recovery rate is more than 15 percentage points higher, and in some countries it is already above the pre-crisis level. Demand for domestic German air traffic fell slightly in February to 1,58 million compared to January (over -48.000 passengers). Compared to February 2019, a good half of the passengers are missing (-54,6%). Compared to the previous year, this market segment grew by +7,1%. European traffic counted 7,9 million passengers in February. Compared to the previous month of January, passenger volume grew by +12,7% (around +240.000 passengers). Compared to the same month of the previous year, this is +15,6%. The recovery rate compared to 2019 is 84,9%. Intercontinental demand is down compared to January (around -239.000 passengers - one in five passengers flies intercontinental). Compared to the same month last year, this market segment grew by +16,8% to 2,72 million passengers. Compared to February 2019, the recovery rate is 93,5% of passengers - and thus reaches the highest value of the three distance classes.
