Eurowings supposedly has the best smartphone app

Numerous airlines offer their passengers apps for bookings, check-in, boarding passes and other services. According to Focus Money, Eurowings' apps are said to have performed best. The trade magazine tested and evaluated the mobile applications of numerous providers. Eurowings achieved an average score of 2,53 and was thus named test winner in the customer friendliness category. It should be noted that such tests are always subjective, as every passenger has different perceptions and feelings. In concrete terms, this means that one person finds something particularly good, while another cannot do anything with it at all. Test results from trade magazines cannot change that.

Tap expands training center in Cascais

The airline Tap Air Portugal and the city of Cascais have signed a contract to expand the training center at the city's airport. The expansion of the training infrastructure will take place in two phases. In the short term, a new Airbus A320 simulator will be added to the two existing flight simulators (Airbus A330 and A320). In a second step, four more simulators can be installed in partnership with third parties, so that a total of seven simulators will then be available. This will realize the goal of creating a vocational training center for aviation in the municipality of São Domingos de Rana near Cascais, in which the TAP Academy plays an important role. "Both the areas of training and maintenance and technology generate great added value. Carrying them out in our own country is also a signal of appreciation to our employees. At the same time, we have the opportunity to create new areas for exporting services instead of paying expensive money for them abroad. Cascais has understood this opportunity perfectly," says Luís Rodrigues, President of TAP.

New York and Hamburg are very popular for city trips

The travel group Tui has analyzed the current booking figures and found that New York is a particularly popular destination for city trips. In second place – ahead of London and Barcelona – is the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. According to Tui, city travelers are booking trips to the American metropolis of New York particularly frequently this year. The city that never sleeps is easy to explore on guided excursions. On the National Geographic Daytour from TUI Musement “The Untold Story of Central Park,” a trained tour guide provides exciting insights into African-American history. Why not see a city from above? The atmosphere of New York, including the tallest skyscrapers in the world, can best be admired on a “Liberty Harbor helicopter flight.” In second place is the German city of Hamburg. This is a little surprising, as this destination is apparently more popular with Tui customers in “competition” with Barcelona and London. The fact that the Free and Hanseatic City offers numerous opportunities for excursions and experiences may play a role. Third place goes to the British capital London. This destination is a perennial favorite that has been attracting city travelers for many decades. Fourth place goes to Barcelona, which is particularly popular with younger travelers, and number five in the ranking is the Portuguese capital Lisbon. The Tui city break ranking at a glance:

Estonia cancels sale of Nordica and Xfly

The Estonian government has broken off talks with two potential investors regarding the sale of the airlines Nordica and Xfly. According to Infrastructure Minister Kristen Michal, the sales process has been put on hold for the time being. Both airlines are to continue under state ownership, but both companies are to be downsized. In other words: the job cuts now seem to be a done deal. According to reports, negotiations with two potential buyers failed because the group's own leasing company TVH was to be separated from the Nordic Aviation Group. This would have meant that only Nordica and/or Xfly could have been acquired, but not the internal leasing company for the aircraft. However, the potential buyers also bid for the lessor, which the government did not want. Now the talks have ended and the loss-making airlines are to continue under state ownership - for the time being. Both carriers, however, are to be downsized. The Estonian government plans to make another attempt to sell at a later date.

Collective bargaining: UFO and Lufthansa agree on higher wages for flight attendants

After around five months of negotiations and a strike, the flight attendants' union UFO and Lufthansa were able to agree on higher salaries for cabin crew. Around 19.000 employees are affected. The main components of the collective bargaining agreement are: an increase in all salary levels by 16,5% - with an interest effect of 17,4% - in three steps, payment of an inflation compensation bonus of 3.000 euros (part-time pro rata), allowance increases for senior flight attendants and an increase in the holiday pay supplement. Now it is the turn of the members of the UFO union, as they must decide whether to accept or reject the agreement, which is to have a term of 36 months. "We fought hard to push through this extensive compensation package. Unfortunately, despite all de-escalation efforts, a labor dispute could not be prevented in order to convince Lufthansa of the seriousness of our demands. However, we can now be very satisfied with the result. A longer term has given us scope for more attractive conditions and at the same time offers reliable planning for the next two and a half years not only for our colleagues, but also for Lufthansa,” says a delighted Harry Jaeger, head of collective bargaining and negotiator at UFO. “Now we will quickly let our members decide whether they are as happy with this package as we are, because that is ultimately what matters. Then we must quickly look ahead, because the next collective bargaining negotiations are already waiting for us. In view of the continued disastrous planning and the lack of staff, which may result in another chaotic summer, a number of things must be examined quickly. In addition, the collective bargaining agreement is due for renegotiation at the end of this year.” The negotiations at the subsidiaries
