TSA sets a new record: almost three million passengers checked in one day

On May 24, 2024, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recorded a historic milestone in U.S. aviation security history. On that day, the start of Memorial Day weekend, 2.951.163 travelers were screened at airports across the country. This new record surpasses the previous high of November 26, 2023 by more than 40.000 passengers. The Sunday after Thanksgiving is traditionally one of the busiest days of the year for air travel, but the numbers from Memorial Day weekend are now setting new standards. The TSA celebrated this achievement on social media while advising all travelers to continue to arrive at airports early to avoid possible flight disruptions. “TSA officers have set a new record for the most travelers screened in a single day! On Friday, May 24, 2.951.163 people were screened at checkpoints nationwide, surpassing the previous record set on November 26, 2023," the agency said in an official statement. The TSA's forecast for the entire Memorial Day weekend is also impressive: Between May 24 and 29, 2024, more than 18 million passengers will pass through U.S. airports. This illustrates the massive increase in travel that is being recorded again after the pandemic-related restrictions. Despite the high number of travelers and the associated challenges, TSA officers performed their duties efficiently and safely. A particular challenge on this day was the delays of more than 6.000 U.S. flights on the East Coast in the early evening of May 24. The reasons for these delays are varied and include both technical and weather-related factors. Nevertheless,

Burgenland Card now includes VOR traffic

For the first time, overnight guests in Burgenland can use public transport throughout the state free of charge with the Burgenland Card. This new offer allows guests to use all bus and train lines in Burgenland free of charge during their stay, including the Burgenland call-a-ride taxi (BAST). In addition, lines B2 and B1 offer a free trip to Graz and back to southern Burgenland with the Burgenland Card. Hosts can send the Burgenland Card digitally before arrival so that guests can use the card for their journey by public transport. This innovative mobility offer is not only intended to facilitate access to a wide range of leisure activities, but also to promote local public transport and help reduce private transport. State Transport Minister Heinrich Dorner highlights the importance of this initiative: "The introduction of the Burgenland Card and the associated free use of public transport is an impressive example of how we can sustainably improve mobility in Burgenland through regional cooperation." The management of the transport organization VOR, Karin Zipperer and Wolfgang Schroll, emphasize the revolutionary effect of the Burgenland Card on regional mobility. Guests from Styria, for example, can travel in a climate-friendly way and discover southern Burgenland, which promotes sustainable tourism and improves mobility in the state. The Burgenland Card is available free of charge in around 680 partner companies in Burgenland and is valid for the duration of the stay. It offers around 350 free and bonus services, including entry to numerous bathing lakes, outdoor pools, cultural institutions such as Esterházy Castle and Forchtenstein Castle, as well as various discounts in thermal baths.

Lufthansa to reintroduce free drinks

Around three years after the abolition of the free drinks service, Lufthansa is responding to the wishes and expectations of its customers. Airline boss Jens Ritter had announced a test run in several interviews, which is now becoming concrete. According to a company spokeswoman, passengers will receive free tea and coffee on selected short- and medium-haul flights. Passengers' reactions are recorded and evaluated as part of continuous customer satisfaction analyses in order to determine the next course of action. In the summer of 2021, Lufthansa stopped the free service in economy class and switched to paid offers. Passengers only received a bottle of water and a piece of chocolate for free, while hot drinks cost between 3 and 3,50 euros and tomato juice 3,20 euros. This decision was met with incomprehension by many travelers and led to complaints. In an increasingly competitive industry, Lufthansa now apparently felt compelled to respond to customer wishes and reconsider the free service. Strategic importance and competition The decision to offer free drinks again could be strategically important in order to survive in the tough competition between airlines. Many competitors still offer their passengers free drinks and the reintroduction of this service could help Lufthansa to differentiate itself from other airlines. Especially on short and medium-haul flights, where service plays an important role, this step could help to retain customers and improve the flight experience. Lufthansa emphasizes that the reintroduction of the free drinks service is in line with its efforts to increase customer satisfaction. Jens Ritter, who has been CEO of the Lufthansa Airline since the beginning of the year, has repeatedly emphasized that
