Hand luggage fees: Four low-costers receive fines in Spain

Spain's Consumer Affairs Ministry has taken a drastic measure, fining four major airlines - Ryanair, Vueling, EasyJet and Volotea - a total of €150 million. This comes following complaints from consumer associations such as Facua, which have taken action against the airlines' practice of charging for hand luggage. The fines also target other practices deemed abusive, including charging for seat reservations next to minors and family members, opaque pricing, as well as refusing to accept cash payments for additional services at airports. While the airlines are taking legal action against the decision, the president of the Association of Airlines, Javier Gándara, argues that the fines are disproportionate and could force up to 50 million passengers to use unnecessary services. He also claims that the decision is contrary to European rules on setting air fares. Facua, on the other hand, supports the fines and expressly encourages consumers to request a refund of these fees in order to stand up for their rights.

Lufthansa flies with A380 between Munich and Washington-Dulles

On May 31, 2024, Munich Airport saw two significant developments in Lufthansa's transatlantic air traffic. In addition to resuming flights to Seattle, a route last served by Condor in 2017, the German airline introduced its Airbus A380 to Washington Dulles. This marks the first time the superjumbo has been used on this route and represents a remarkable milestone for Lufthansa and Munich Airport. The flight schedule for the route is as follows (all times in local time): These flights with the A380 will be operated until September 30, 2024. From October 1, 2024, the route will be switched to the Airbus A350-900 with 293 seats, which corresponds to a reduction in capacity of 42%. This adjustment is expected to lead to higher yields in the less demanded season. The Airbus A380 in Washington Dulles With the introduction of the Airbus A380 on the route to Washington Dulles, Lufthansa joins the ranks of British Airways and Emirates, who also use the superjumbo on this route. It is the first time since 2019 that three airlines have used the A380 at Dulles at the same time. At that time, Air France was also there, which used the
