Netjets sues pilots association for defamation

Netjets has sued the 3400-member Netjets Association of Shared Aircraft Pilots (NJASAP) after it made critical comments about the company's commitment to safety. The suit was filed in state court in Columbus, Ohio, and seeks unspecified damages. The company's relationship with NJASAP has long been contentious. NJASAP raised concerns about Netjets' pilot training and safety culture, which the company viewed as defamatory. NJASAP President Pedro Leroux called the suit an attempt to silence the union. Netjets accuses the association of damaging the company's reputation through press releases and social media posts. Netjets also responded to advertisements and statements that suggested the company was not paying enough attention to the safety of its flights. The airline also denies claims that new pilots are inadequately trained. The lawsuit is another chapter in a long dispute between Netjets and the NJASAP. The union had previously sued Netjets for allegedly interfering in its contract negotiations, a case that was dismissed. Netjets is part of Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffett's company, and employs thousands of people around the world. The majority of them are not unionized. Warren Buffett had previously stated that Berkshire had no anti-union intentions.

Air Baltic is examining a possible base in Ljubljana

Following discussions with the Slovenian government last year, Air Baltic does not rule out the possibility of opening a base in Ljubljana. Although the airline initially had no plans for a base in the Slovenian capital, it has now expressed openness to various opportunities and underserved markets in Europe. The airline recently started operations between Riga and Ljubljana, switching from seasonal to year-round operations, supported by a subsidy program from the Slovenian government to improve Ljubljana's connectivity. Despite previous comments by CEO Martin Gauss that he sees no potential for a base in the Balkans, Air Baltic continues to explore expansion. Cyprus Airways has also submitted an application to open a base and start operating several routes from Ljubljana. The Slovenian Ministry of Infrastructure confirmed receipt of the application, but pointed out that it was incomplete and required modifications before a decision could be made. A final decision is expected after the application is revised. The potential establishment of a base in Ljubljana by Air Baltic and the submission of the application by Cyprus Airways demonstrate the interest of various airlines in strengthening their presence in the region.

Air Serbia reaches new high in May 2024

Air Serbia recorded its busiest month in May 2024, with 372.638 passengers since the launch of the new brand in 2013. This represents a notable increase of 11% compared to the same period last year, although the number of flights increased by only 4% to a total of 3.869. The airline's most popular routes were destinations in Western Europe such as Zurich, Paris and Amsterdam, as well as Podgorica and Tivat in the region and Istanbul, Athens and Larnaca in the wider Euro-Mediterranean zone. To meet this increased demand, Air Serbia has decided to increase frequencies to Cyprus from August to October, increasing the number of flights to thirteen per week from the planned twelve weekly rotations. In the period from January to May, Air Serbia carried almost 1,5 million passengers. Boško Rupić, the airline's General Manager for Commercial and Strategy, stressed the importance of this achievement and stated that the results motivate them to continue working on improving their services. Air Serbia is expected to break JAT Yugoslav Airlines' annual passenger record set in 2025 either this year or in 1987. The airline also plans dynamic development for the rest of the year, including the acquisition of new aircraft such as Airbus A330-200 and Embraer E195.
