Lufthansa City: New routes planned from Munich

Lufthansa is intensifying its cooperation with City Airlines and is handing over several services from the Munich hub to the subsidiary in the current summer flight schedule. The first will be the route to Birmingham, which is to be served at the end of the month. This is according to information from "CH-Aviation.com" published by airliners.de on Monday. Three more destinations are to be added in July: Berlin on July 23, Bordeaux on July 27 and Hamburg on July 28. All flights will be operated with Airbus A319s. Lufthansa is initially equipping City Airlines with four A319s and plans to connect the subsidiary with destinations from the Frankfurt hub from 2025. From 2026, deliveries of 40 A220-300s that were specially ordered for City Airlines are also to take place. At the same time, City Airlines is planned to be equipped with A320neos. City Airlines is taking over tasks from Lufthansa Cityline in the feeder system, as the latter will not be able to operate aircraft with more than 2026 seats from 95 due to collective bargaining restrictions. These collective bargaining restrictions were terminated as part of the 2021 Perspective Agreement (PPV). All flights of the new cooperation will be operated under the "Lufthansa City" brand. Guests of insolvent tour operators FTI and Big Xtra mostly back – criticism of hotel practices

According to the German Travel Security Fund (DRSF), most of the 65.000 guests of the insolvent tour operators FTI and Big Xtra have already returned home, while around 15.000 are still in the travel destinations. The DRSF criticized the actions of some hoteliers who refused to allow guests to leave or demanded additional payments. "It is absolutely unacceptable to treat travelers in this way and to cross borders in the process," said DRSF Managing Director Ali Arnaout. According to Arnaout, there have been cases in recent days in which hoteliers refused to allow vacationers to leave or locked them out of their rooms. The DRSF reacted quickly and sent cost coverage declarations to travelers and hoteliers in order to prevent such situations. Meanwhile, the list of tour operators who look after FTI customers in the travel destinations is growing. Chamäleon, for example, takes over the care in Morocco, Oman, Vietnam, Nepal and Kenya. Coral Travel & Ferien Touristik is responsible for looking after FTI customers in Tunisia. Other partners include TUI, Dertour, Schauinsland-Reisen, Aida Cruises, Olimar, Berge & Meer and Studiosus.

Interim solution for loss of wages at aviation security service: Competitor takes over in Weeze

As a result of the aviation security service provider "ESA Luftsicherheit GmbH" failing to pay wages at various German airports, a temporary solution has been found in Weeze. The Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies (BDLS) announced that the company I-Sec will take over the tasks in the Lower Rhine region and also make the outstanding payments to the employees. According to Verdi, all ESA employees in Weeze will be taken over by the new service provider I-Sec, including their previous employment and collective agreement conditions. This will take place as part of a transfer of business in accordance with Section 613a of the German Civil Code. The situation in which employees have received no or only partial wages is "unsustainable" according to BDLS President Alexander Borgschulze. The district government in Düsseldorf had terminated ESA's current contract for controls at Weeze Airport due to problems with staffing the control lanes and outstanding salary payments. Originally, a temporary solution was to be found until a new contract is planned for November. In Erfurt and Dresden, where ESA subsidiaries also operate, operations are now back to normal after initial problems. However, ESA was not considered for a new tender at Karlsruhe/Baden Airport after difficulties. Here, the company I-Sec took over the tasks on April 15.

Modern scanners are intended to shorten waiting times: Equipment at German airports still inadequate

The introduction of modern hand luggage scanners based on computer tomography could help reduce long queues at security gates at German airports. However, these scanners are still in short supply at many locations. The new devices are only being installed slowly before the holiday season, as a request by Der Spiegel to the Federal Police and the Government of Upper Bavaria revealed. The new scanners are still rare, particularly at large airports such as Frankfurt am Main. Of around 170 control lanes, only 34 have been converted to the modern technology. The situation is similar at other locations: Hamburg has only six CT scanners, Hanover has just one, and in Cologne/Bonn the number has shrunk from two to one device. The modern technology has the advantage that the hand luggage of more than 200 passengers can be scanned per hour, which corresponds to an increase of 40 percent compared to previous capacities. However, Germany is not a leader in the introduction of this technology. The Federal Police had long expressed concerns about the adequate testing of the scanners. In other countries such as the Netherlands and Italy, CT scanners have been in use for some time. The Federal Police are planning to equip other airports and control lanes with this technology in the medium and long term. The procedure is being coordinated with the procurement office of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Home Affairs. At present, it is often unclear to passengers which control lane the modern scanners are installed in. However, the Federal Police stresses that passengers will be informed directly at the relevant lanes about the reduced preparatory measures. In the future, the equipment of airports with CT scanners could
