Mariazellerbahn offers summer commuter promotion in the Pielachtal

The Mariazellerbahn and the Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region (VOR) are launching a commuter campaign in the Pielachtal from July to September. For a monthly price of 42,08 euros, passengers can use the VOR climate ticket to get to work in a relaxed manner during a construction site closure on the B 39. This campaign was made possible in cooperation with the Pielachtal communities and the VOR, as Deputy Governor Udo Landbauer announced. With its regular journeys, the Mariazellerbahn offers a comfortable and punctual alternative to the car. According to a passenger survey by the VCÖ, 97 percent of those surveyed particularly value the punctuality, cleanliness and friendliness of the trains as well as their safety. The summer commuter campaign also includes a comprehensive passenger survey, the results of which should contribute to future timetable planning, explains Barbara Komarek, Managing Director of Niederösterreich Bahnen. During the campaign period, commuters can use the VOR climate ticket at a reduced rate and benefit from additional services such as free transport of e-scooters, folding bikes and folding scooters. For bicycles, it is possible to book parking spaces that require a reservation. Frequent riders also have the option of a monthly ticket for bicycles. The Mariazellerbahn commuter campaign is carried out in cooperation with the municipalities of Ober-Grafendorf, Weinburg, Hofstetten-Grünau, Rabenstein, Kirchberg, Loich, Schwarzenbach and Frankenfels as well as the VOR. Synhelion opens world's first industrial solar fuel plant in Germany

Synhelion has inaugurated the world's first industrial plant for the production of synthetic fuels using solar heat in Jülich. The plant, called Dawn, uses a 20-meter-high solar tower and a mirror field to produce solar fuels for the transport sector. This technology marks a significant step towards defossilization and is used in particular in air transport for sustainable mobility. The Dawn plant integrates all of Synhelion's innovative technologies for the first time on an industrial scale. It enables continuous production of solar fuels around the clock and shows the entire technology chain from sunlight to synthetic fuel. Dawn is expected to produce several thousand liters of fuel per year from 2024, mainly synthetic oil, which is then refined into certified fuels. Synhelion plans to build a commercial plant in Spain from 2025 with a production capacity of around 1 tons per year. At the ceremonial inauguration on the summer solstice, representatives from politics and industry emphasized the importance of solar fuels for CO000 reduction in the transport sector. State Secretary Hartmut Höppner and Heike Birlenbach from SWISS highlighted the strategic importance and potential of this technology. Philipp Furler, CEO of Synhelion, described the inauguration as a historic moment and emphasized the importance of technological innovation for sustainable mobility. Synhelion plans to achieve a production capacity of around one million tons of solar fuel per year within ten years.

New Trailbell for more safety and consideration in Austria's mountains

With the start of summer, the Austrian Alpine Club is introducing an innovative solution to reduce conflicts between mountain bikers and hikers: the Trailbell. This small bell, attached to the mountain bike or backpack, is intended to indicate the presence of cyclists early on and thus improve coexistence on the mountain. Mountain biking remains one of the most popular summer sports in the Alpine Club, with many bikers using both forest roads for the ascent and hiking trails for the descent. This practice is to be harmonized through the use of the Trailbell to ensure safety and the experience of nature for everyone. René Sendlhofer-Schag, the Alpine Club's mountain bike coordinator, emphasizes the importance of consideration and respect for peaceful coexistence on the mountain trails. The Trailbell offers an elegant solution by ringing in a timely and gentle manner without disturbing the surroundings, unlike loud bicycle bells. The Trailbell can also be muted on forest roads to preserve the peace and quiet in nature. Together with conscious riding behavior and riding technique courses from the Alpine Club, the Trailbell helps ensure that both mountain bikers and hikers can enjoy the mountains safely and respectfully.

Innovative energy project launched at Munich Airport

An innovative system for sustainable energy generation is currently being tested at Munich Airport: a mobile energy container from FlowGen, equipped with photovoltaic panels and small wind turbines, is used to charge electric vehicles. The project, in collaboration with Munich Airport GmbH, is taking place in a parking lot in the east of the airport, which is frequented by rental car companies. The container produces up to 200 kilowatt hours per day using solar and wind energy, which is enough to charge four to six electric cars. During the twelve-month test project, extensive data on the performance and efficiency of the system will be collected and analyzed. The flexible design of the FlowGen solution enables rapid installation and adaptation to different locations and applications.
