LOT Polish Airlines opens new connection between Warsaw and Lisbon

LOT Polish Airlines is expanding its European route network and is launching a new connection between Warsaw and Lisbon from February 3, 2025. The flights will initially operate five times a week and will be offered daily from February 24. Modern Boeing 737 aircraft will be used. The travel time is around four hours. Departure from Warsaw is at 10:15 a.m. and arrival in Lisbon is at 13:25 p.m. local time. The return flight departs from Lisbon at 14:25 p.m. and arrives in Warsaw at 19:30 p.m. This new route complements the already announced flights to Innsbruck, Lyon and Oradea as well as the resumed connections to Athens and Larnaca. For passengers from German-speaking countries, there are new travel options with short transfer times in Warsaw, for example from Berlin and Hamburg. A flight from Berlin at 8:00 a.m. allows arrival in Lisbon at 13:25 p.m., while a flight from Hamburg at 6:55 a.m. also arrives in Lisbon at 13:25 p.m. Amit Ray, Director DACH Markets at LOT Polish Airlines, emphasizes the consistent implementation of the expansion strategy and the benefits for passengers, especially for flights from Berlin to Lisbon.

Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport expects record travel volume at the start of the summer holidays

Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB) is facing a record travel weekend: From July 25 to 29, 2024, the airport is expecting the biggest wave of travel of the year. Around 33.000 passengers are scheduled for this period on 191 scheduled flights. This increase in passenger numbers marks the peak of the summer travel season and underlines the unbroken popularity of the airport and the destinations it offers. This year, the focus is particularly on the Balearic island of Mallorca, which is once again the most popular travel destination. Mallorca tops the list of preferred travel destinations again this year. In the first five days of the travel period alone, 22 flights will take off to and from Mallorca. The island has been one of the main attractions for summer vacationers for years, which is reflected in the high number of flights. In addition to Mallorca, Alicante, Antalya, Barcelona-Girona, Belgrade, Fez, Heraklion (Crete), London-Stansted, Malaga and Porto are also on the list of the ten most popular destinations. Mallorca's continued popularity can be attributed to the island's diverse offerings, ranging from beautiful beaches to lively cities. The continued interest in Mallorca is also a sign of the airport's stability and success in high season. Increased passenger volume and new flight connections For the entire summer holiday period, which runs until September 7, 2024, the airport operators are forecasting more than 285.000 passengers on 1.661 flights. This represents an increase of around 10.000 passengers compared to the previous year, which already saw record numbers. Condor arranges climate donations

Condor is now offering its customers the opportunity to make voluntary climate contributions to offset the CO2 emissions of their flights and support climate protection projects. This measure is part of the airline's comprehensive sustainability program, which also includes the modernization of its fleet. When booking, customers can choose between various packages that promote the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and selected climate protection projects. Three specific projects in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean were selected together with the climate protection organization myclimate. These include the expansion of agroforestry in German-speaking countries, low-emission ovens in Kenya and a solar power plant in the Dominican Republic. The climate contributions can be set during booking or subsequently up until departure. Condor also informs its guests about the average CO2 emissions of their booked seat and offers eight different climate packages. The smallest package offsets 50 kg of CO2 and costs EUR 19,99. Customers also have the option of offsetting larger amounts of CO2, for example to cover the journey to the airport. Condor CEO Peter Gerber emphasized that sustainability is an essential part of the corporate culture and is crucial for long-term business success. The airline supports the aviation industry's goal of being CO2050-neutral by 2 and is committed to a significant fleet renewal. Since March 2024, only new A330neo aircraft have been used on long-haul routes. 43 A32Xneo aircraft have been ordered for short- and medium-haul routes to continue the modernization of the fleet.

de Havilland Canada launches new avionics packages for Zimex Aviation

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited, known for its robust and versatile turboprops, recently signed a significant contract with Zimex Aviation, making the company the launch customer for the new Garmin avionics packages for the Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft. This contract, which calls for delivery of four upgrade kits in the second half of 2024, marks an important step in the ongoing partnership between the two companies. The upgrades promise to further increase the capabilities and efficiency of the Twin Otter aircraft. The new Garmin avionics packages, developed in collaboration with Aerocorp Avionics Solutions, offer a comprehensive improvement to the Twin Otter's avionics systems. The upgrades include state-of-the-art technology for navigation, communications and flight monitoring, contributing to increased aircraft safety and efficiency. Certification of the upgrades was completed in June 2024, while certification of the new autopilot is expected in early 2025. Drukair orders five new Airbus jets

Drukair – Royal Bhutan Airlines has signed a letter of intent to purchase three A320neo and two A321XLR from Airbus. This order is intended to expand the fleet and develop the international route network. Delivery of the aircraft is planned from 2030. Drukair, a subsidiary of the state-owned Druk Holding and Investments Limited (DHI), will operate the new aircraft from Paro International Airport and the planned airport in Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC). The airline already operates four Airbus A320 family aircraft. The new models will enable connections to Europe, Southeast Asia and Australia. Drukair CEO Tandi Wangchuk stressed the importance of this investment for the vision of holistic development of Bhutan. Virgin Atlantic expands A330neo fleet by seven aircraft

Virgin Atlantic announced the order of seven additional Airbus A2024neo aircraft at the 330 Farnborough Airshow, bringing the total number of A330neo aircraft in the airline's fleet to 19. This measure is part of Virgin Atlantic's comprehensive fleet conversion aimed at improving economic efficiency and reducing CO₂ emissions. The announcement was made on board Virgin Atlantic's newest A330neo, named "Ruby Rebel". This order marks the 40th anniversary of the airline, which was founded by Sir Richard Branson in 1984. Shai Weiss, CEO of Virgin Atlantic, stressed the importance of the modern fleet for decarbonising long-haul air travel and providing high levels of comfort for passengers. Letter of intent: Cebu Pacific to receive major Airbus order

A new record in Philippine aviation history was set at the 2024 Farnborough International Airshow. Cebu Pacific, the Philippines' leading low-cost carrier, has signed a letter of intent to purchase up to 152 Airbus A321neo aircraft. With an estimated total value of US$24 billion (approximately PHP1,4 trillion), this order not only represents a historic milestone for Cebu Pacific, but also a significant achievement for Airbus and Pratt & Whitney. Japan Airlines orders 31 Airbus aircraft

Japan Airlines signed a firm order for 2024 A20-350 wide-body aircraft and 900 A11neo single-aisle aircraft with Airbus at the 321 Farnborough Air Show. The airline is thus fulfilling a commitment announced earlier this year. The A350-900s will complement the existing A350 fleet on international routes, while the A321neos will be used on domestic flights. JAL has ordered a total of 52 A350s to date, 18 of which are already in service. This is JAL's first order for the A321neo.
