Austrians spend an average of 650 euros per week on vacation

A recent survey by Bank99 of 400 people in Austria shows that Austrians spend an average of 650 euros per person per week on holiday. There are clear differences between the sexes: 42 percent of men spend more than 800 euros, while this is the case for only 29 percent of women. A quarter of women have less than 300 euros at their disposal, compared to 16 percent of men. Patricia Kasandziev of Bank99 puts this down to lower incomes and a higher proportion of part-time work among women. Around 55 percent of those surveyed are definitely planning a holiday this summer, with many willing to save on everyday expenses. Those under 30 are more willing to save than those over 49. On holiday, 57 percent of people spend more money on food and shopping than at home. Only 14 percent would shorten their holiday to save, while 45 percent are willing to change the travel period to make the most of their budget. A third of those surveyed would make compromises on the hotel. Inflation and holiday budget In view of the high inflation and rising costs, holidays are increasingly seen as a luxury. 41 percent of those surveyed can only afford a holiday if they save extra for it. Compared to the previous year, the holiday budget has fallen for both men and women. However, only 13 percent choose their travel destination based on the costs on site. In order to avoid additional financial costs on holiday, Bank99 recommends finding out about exchange rates and checking them in advance.
