Sylt incident: Climate glue must answer in court

The climate stickers of the "Last Generation" have once again come under the spotlight of the judiciary. In connection with several actions, including a spectacular incident at the airfield in Tinnum on Sylt, six members of the group have to answer in court. The charges include property damage, trespassing and disruption of public services. The trial against the activists will begin in November 2024 and could have far-reaching consequences for the movement and its methods. The climate initiative "Last Generation" has made a name for itself through its radical protest actions. The group relies on spectacular and often controversial measures to draw attention to climate change and generate political pressure. The best-known actions include sticking things in public places, spraying works of art and blocking traffic routes. Recently, one action on Sylt in particular has become the focus of public attention. On June 6, 2023, several members of the "Last Generation" forcibly gained access to the airfield in Tinnum on the North Sea island of Sylt. There they sprayed a private plane with paint, rendering the plane unusable. The incident was classified by the Flensburg public prosecutor's office as a significant case of property damage and disruption of public operations. The amount of damage caused is estimated at at least one million euros, just for the damaged aircraft. The impact on the airport's operations is additional. Legal consequences and other incidents The trial against the six activists was opened last week, as Philip Fendt, spokesman for the Flensburg Regional Court, confirmed. Corendon is considering its own long-haul fleet

Turkish aviation group Corendon has established itself as a major player in the European market in recent years. With subsidiaries in Turkey, the Netherlands and Malta, Corendon operates a variety of aircraft models covering a wide range of routes. While most of its aircraft belong to the Boeing 737 series, Corendon Dutch Airlines recently made a notable addition to its fleet: an Airbus A350-900. This decision marks the start of an ambitious plan by the company that could also offer long-haul flights in the future. Corendon Airlines, Corendon Dutch Airlines and Corendon Airlines Europe together make up the group's fleet portfolio. Each of these airlines mainly operates Boeing 737 models: in addition, the Turkish and Dutch subsidiaries operate some Airbus A320s that they have leased. This fleet strategy allows Corendon to operate flexibly in both short- and medium-haul routes. The Airbus A350-900: A look at long-haul routes Particularly striking is the use of an Airbus A350-900 by Corendon Dutch Airlines. This long-haul aircraft, which is leased from Spanish airline World2Fly, stands out clearly from the other models used by Corendon. Flying under the registration EC-NTB, the A350-900 features the distinctive Corendon logo in red and yellow. The Airbus A350-900 is currently used on the route to the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao. This route was previously part of a contingent that Corendon had acquired from KLM, the Dutch national airline. The A350 has also recently flown to Bonair and Hurghada and is expected to continue to operate on these long-haul routes. Ambitions for an own long-haul fleet The interest
