Emirates discontinues Singapore-Melbourne route

Emirates will discontinue its service between Singapore and Melbourne to avoid the high level of competition on the route. Passengers will be rebooked on flights operated by partner airline Qantas. The airline is also seeking to be released from existing capacity obligations imposed by the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) in 2013. Emirates has operated the EK404/405 route since 1996, but plans to discontinue it permanently following a decision by the CCCS. Other airlines, such as Singapore Airlines, Qantas, and Jetstar, continue to offer numerous flights between Singapore and Melbourne.

German Airways continues wet lease for KLM in winter 2024/2025

German Airways will continue to operate under wet lease for KLM in the 2024/2025 winter flight schedule. The German airline's Embraer E190 will be used on several routes from Amsterdam. These include connections to cities such as Bremen, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hanover, Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart. Ryanair opens bookings for summer 2025 from Klagenfurt

Ryanair has already opened bookings for connections from Klagenfurt Airport to London, Alicante and Palma de Mallorca for the 2025 summer flight schedule. From April 2025, flights to Alicante and London-Stansted will be offered twice a week, and the connection to Palma de Mallorca will even be offered four times a week. Eurowings launches new summer connection between Sweden and Greece

The Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings will introduce a new flight connection between Sweden and Greece in summer 2025. Altenrhein Airport plans three-month closure for modernization work

Altenrhein Airport will cease operations for three weeks in August 2025. Iberia starts operating the new Airbus A321 XLR

IT glitch at Lufthansa Cargo: An update with far-reaching consequences

Since September 17, 2024, Lufthansa's freight subsidiary Lufthansa Cargo has been under massive pressure due to an IT error. A planned update of the central IT system, known as iCAP, led to unexpected technical difficulties that temporarily brought imports and exports at the important hubs in Frankfurt and Munich to a standstill. Trucks piled up in front of the terminals and there were significant delays in the flow of freight business. Even though the disruption has now been resolved, the glitch will continue to affect operations for several days. The origin of the problem: the iCAP update iCAP is the heart of Lufthansa Cargo and the central IT system through which the company's entire booking and processing system runs. As a technological hub for global freight traffic, it is crucial for the smooth flow of imports and exports. This made the update planned for September 16 and 17 all the more delicate. Jasmin Kaiser, CIO of Lufthansa Cargo, warned of potential problems in advance: "IT changes of this magnitude and on a core system such as iCAP are a challenge for all of us. There can certainly be some glitches in some places." But the extent of the complications that arose during the update exceeded all fears. BRA and SAS enter into long-term wet-lease partnership

Scandinavian airlines BRA (Braathens Regional Airlines) and SAS have agreed on a long-term wet-lease partnership. Under the agreement, BRA will operate several aircraft for SAS and provide capacity on key domestic routes in Sweden and for the Copenhagen hub.
