Vienna Airport expands advertising opportunities on City Airport Train

Vienna Airport's marketing platform Airport Media is expanding its offering and is now also offering advertising space in the City Airport Train (CAT) and its foyer at Wien Mitte/Landstrasse station. This allows advertisers to cover the entire route from arrival at the airport to Vienna's city center. The new advertising options include digital and static spaces in the train and in the foyer, which can be used to effectively reach business travelers, tourists and commuters. The CAT, which is the fastest connection between the airport and Vienna's city center, transports up to 4.000 passengers a day. Vienna Airport and the CAT thus offer a broad portfolio of advertising options with modern technologies that specifically appeal to an international audience. The CAT is 50,1 percent owned by Vienna Airport and 49,9 percent by ÖBB.

Ryanair allegedly disregards court order in dispute with eDreams ODIGEO

The Commercial Court of Barcelona has issued Ryanair with a formal criminal warning after the airline repeatedly violated a court order to stop disparaging eDreams ODIGEO and its Prime program. Despite a court ruling in the summer that required Ryanair to refrain from making derogatory statements, the airline continued its behavior. The court is now threatening criminal sanctions if Ryanair continues to disregard the binding orders. The Spanish Commercial Court had previously found that Ryanair's statements violated the law against unfair competition and constituted a targeted campaign to promote its own platform. The Spanish Supreme Court had already ruled in an earlier ruling that eDreams ODIGEO is entitled to sell Ryanair flights. Ryanair's repeated disregard of these rulings could now result in criminal consequences.

Sweden: Airlines welcome abolition of ticket tax

The Swedish government has decided to abolish the air ticket tax, which has been in force since 2018, on July 1, 2025. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) welcomed the move, calling the tax harmful to Sweden's economic competitiveness and ineffective for environmental goals. The tax, which ranged from SEK 76 to SEK 504 per ticket depending on the destination, was originally intended to reduce CO2 emissions from air travel. The Swedish government sees the abolition as part of a comprehensive growth reform that also includes investments in infrastructure and research. The abolition of the tax is expected to result in significant tax losses, estimated at SEK 870 million in 2025 and more than SEK 1,8 billion in the following years. IATA praised the decision as recognition that the tax was economically detrimental and ineffective for environmental goals. IATA is instead calling for increased investment in sustainable aviation fuels and technologies to achieve net-zero CO2050 emissions by 2. The Swedish airline BRA also welcomed the decision and pointed out that the tax did not correspond to the actual CO2 emissions from air traffic.

SAS makes Copenhagen its main hub

The Scandinavian airline SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) is about to massively expand its presence at Copenhagen Airport, which already plays a central role in European air traffic. From summer 2025, 15 new routes will be opened from Copenhagen, including a long-haul connection to Seattle. This step not only marks a significant expansion of the route network, but also a strategic realignment of the airline in global aviation. With the integration into the SkyTeam alliance and the successful restructuring after creditor protection, SAS is focusing on establishing Copenhagen as a global gateway connecting Europe with North America and Asia. The geographically favorable location of the Danish capital enables the airline to serve the growing demand for transatlantic and long-distance travel. The expansion includes new connections to European cities such as Krakow, Madrid and Budapest, while at the same time existing routes - for example to Berlin or Toronto - will be strengthened by more frequent flights. Overall, the offer in Copenhagen will be expanded by around 15%, further consolidating the airport's position as a hub for international air traffic. One of the most notable new developments is the resumption of the Copenhagen-Seattle route, which is being offered again after a break of almost six decades. The new long-haul connection reflects the growing importance of the Pacific Northwest of the USA, where there are historical ties to Scandinavian immigrants. This expansion is part of a comprehensive plan that will increase the number of direct flights from Copenhagen to North America to eleven destinations and strengthen SAS's competitiveness in transatlantic traffic. In addition, SAS will also use the airports in Oslo
