Munich Airport expands gate capacities in Terminal 1

Munich Airport is investing in expanding gate capacity in Terminal 1 by building a new finger that extends 360 meters into the west apron. The cost of the project has now risen to 665 million euros, and commissioning is planned for the end of 2025. The aim of the expansion is to make the hub more attractive to passengers of various airlines, as Terminal 2 is mainly used by Lufthansa and Star Alliance. The new finger will have six floors, with three levels dedicated to passenger handling. Construction work, which has been ongoing since 2019 and was delayed by the pandemic, is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025. The new building will make it possible to position up to twelve small or six large aircraft at the gates at the same time. It will not be possible for airlines to reserve the gates; resource planning will be done in consultation with the airlines.

Boeing strike: Union negotiations fail – industrial action without end in sight

Since the end of September 2024, Boeing has been experiencing one of the largest labor disputes in recent years. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), which represents over 25.000 employees in the Boeing Group, has called a strike on September 23, which has hit the company hard. However, after another failed attempt at negotiations at the end of September, there is still no prospect of an agreement. Negotiations between the union and Boeing were "broken off" without new dates set. This has far-reaching consequences for Boeing, the aviation industry and employees, as the production of aircraft and important components continues to be significantly disrupted. Looking back: How the strike came about The demands of the IAM machinists go far beyond the usual wage increase that is discussed in regular collective bargaining in the aerospace industry. The core points of the dispute are a 40 percent wage increase and the reintroduction of the defined benefit pension plan that Boeing abolished around ten years ago. This plan guaranteed employees a fixed pension amount in retirement, while the company has since switched to a defined contribution plan that calculates pensions based on individual savings and market values. This pension plan, which was in place until 2014, had long secured the loyalty and satisfaction of many Boeing employees. Its abolition is therefore perceived as a profound breach of trust. Many machinists see the return to this model as a matter of respect and recognition for long-standing employees who have often worked for the company for decades. The course of the negotiations On September 27, 2024, representatives of the IAM and Boeing met for further mediation talks.

Maria Theresia – A new musical event at Vienna's Ronacher

The Vereinigte Bühnen Wien (VBW), known for their outstanding musical productions, are continuing their series of successes with "Maria Theresia - The Musical" and are announcing a new in-house production for autumn 2025. After the overwhelming success of "Rock Me Amadeus - The Falco Musical", this time the story of one of Europe's most important monarchs will be brought to the stage. The premiere at the Ronacher promises to celebrate the strength, courage and vision of the famous empress in an epic musical experience that will grip the audience both emotionally and musically. Maria Theresia, born in 1717, was crowned empress in 1740 as the first female ruler of the Habsburg monarchy. She took responsibility for an empire that was characterized by political and military challenges at the time. Her reign was overshadowed by conflicts such as the War of Succession and power struggles in Europe. But her achievements extend far beyond the battlefields: she reformed the administration, promoted education and social projects and laid the foundations for the rise of the Habsburgs as a major power in Europe. Her ability to survive and triumph in a world dominated by men makes her an outstanding figure in history. A look behind the scenes of the musical The upcoming musical combines historical drama with modern musical theater. The composition is being written by Dieter Falk, known for his work on "Moses - The Ten Commandments" and "Luther". He will be responsible for the arrangements and orchestration together with his son, Paul Falk. The lyrics are by Jonathan Zelter, who has worked for artists such as Roland Kaiser and
