Lego model of the Twin City Liner for a good cause

The Twin City Liner, which has connected Vienna and Bratislava on the Danube since 2006, has now been recreated in a special version - as a Lego model. This project, initiated by the production agency "Gramm & Bytes Medien GmbH" and the association "der helfende Stein", was completed by Lego designer Josef Reckendorfer and his team in just 75 minutes during a trip on the Twin City Liner. The model consists of around 4.000 Lego bricks, is about 100 cm long, 20 cm high and weighs 5 kg. The special trip on which the model was built took place on October 3, 2023. All proceeds from this trip will go to UNICEF Austria to support children in need. In addition, series production of the Lego Twin City Liner is planned, provided that at least ten binding orders are received. The cost of a model is 1.500 euros per ship. Since its launch, the Twin City Liner has been a symbol of the close connection between Vienna and Bratislava and has carried over two million passengers. The Lego version of the fast catamaran is intended to continue this success story in a creative way and at the same time make a contribution to charitable causes.

Chaotic conditions at Munich Airport: Over 750 passengers miss their flights

At Munich Airport, there was a massive traffic jam at the security checkpoints in Terminal 2 on Thursday, causing around 750 passengers to miss their flights. Images of endless queues and frustrated travelers quickly made the rounds on social media, bringing the incident to wider public attention. What made it particularly tragic was that it was German Unity Day, a public holiday when many people were out and about taking advantage of their days off. Munich Airport, one of the largest and most important air traffic hubs in Europe, suddenly found itself faced with a crisis that put pressure not only on the passengers affected, but also on management and security authorities. At a subsequent press conference, airport boss Jost Lammers spoke of "very unusual arrival behavior among passengers" that was blamed for the chaotic conditions. Early arrival: cause or symptom? According to Lammers, many of the travelers had already arrived at the airport six hours or even earlier before their scheduled departure. This early arrival would have massively increased the volume at the security checkpoints and led to the long waiting times. This behavior was not common in the past. However, the question of why the passengers suddenly arrived so much earlier than usual remained unanswered. Lammers admitted that this was the "center of our analysis" and acknowledged that this situation had not been experienced before. It is speculated that a combination of holiday traffic, increased safety awareness among passengers and possibly unclear information on the recommended arrival times could have caused the unusually early arrival of many passengers. Some passengers stated that

Vereinigung Cockpit: Working conditions continue to deteriorate

According to the latest edition of the European Pilots' Association's (ECA) "Social Rating of Airlines", working conditions and social partnership at many European airlines are declining sharply. The survey, in which over 6.000 pilots took part, shows that satisfaction has fallen at 33 of the 50 airlines rated. Only 9 airlines were able to record improvements compared to the last survey in 2021. According to the Cockpit Association, the results are particularly problematic for airlines that rely on wet-lease partners, such as Lufthansa AG, whose partners Avion Express, Smart Wings and Air Baltic were classified as "social snails" or "social misfits". Established brands such as Condor and Lufthansa are also seeing a decline in satisfaction. Lufthansa only just made it into the top 10, while Discover Airlines came in a disappointing 29th place. The Cockpit Association is calling on politicians to create stricter regulations for the use of wet leasing in order to improve working conditions and prevent abuse of this practice. It is also calling for more transparency so that passengers know which airline they are actually travelling with.

Warm winter destinations and new trends in the 2024/25 winter flight schedule

With the start of the winter flight schedule in November 2024, Ruefa, one of Austria's leading tour operators, is fulfilling the wish of many Austrians to escape the cold season. This winter, warm travel destinations that guarantee sun and relaxation are once again particularly popular - be it on the paradisiacal beaches of the Maldives, the Canary Islands or the exotic Dominican Republic. This winter, Ruefa is offering a diverse range of long-haul and medium-haul destinations, including not only classic favorites, but also new, up-and-coming destinations. Winter time means long-haul travel time While many Europeans prefer the Mediterranean coasts in summer, winter traditionally remains the peak season for long-haul travel. The Christmas holidays in particular offer the perfect opportunity to escape the cold and travel to distant countries that promise warmth and relaxation. According to Birgit Wallner, Managing Director of Ruefa, the Maldives and Thailand are once again very popular this season: “We continue to see strong demand for the Maldives and Thailand. Both destinations are at the top of the long-haul travel rankings." Thailand attracts visitors with its diverse holiday options, from the vibrant metropolises such as Bangkok to the beautiful beaches of Phuket and the quieter regions such as Khao Lak and Koh Samui. Mauritius, another classic winter travel destination, is also very popular. With the expansion of flight connections to Bangkok and the Maldives, travelers are offered more flexibility, which further increases the attractiveness of these destinations. New trends in long-haul travel In addition to the traditional long-haul travel destinations, new trends are also emerging.
