Condor and Lufthansa: Negotiations on feeder flights continue

The aviation industry is currently discussing intensively the future cooperation between Condor and Lufthansa. Both airlines are still in talks about the continuation of the Special Prorate Agreement (SPA), which secures Condor feeder flights to the Frankfurt hub through Lufthansa. This agreement is of central importance to maintain Condor's operations and guarantee the accessibility of international destinations for passengers. In an interview with the trade magazine *airliners.de*, a Condor spokeswoman confirmed that negotiations are ongoing, while at the same time rejecting speculation about a possible complaint to the EU Commission. Clarification of the facts According to the Condor spokeswoman, there is currently no complaint from Condor to the EU Commission against Lufthansa, information that has been presented as false in media reports. This clarification underlines the uncertainties and misunderstandings that exist in the industry regarding this important agreement. Talks about the commercial cooperation are therefore still ongoing, with Condor refusing to comment on speculation about the course or content of these negotiations. Lufthansa, which did not want to comment further on the pending status of the negotiations, is also contributing to the lack of clarity. The end of the Special Prorate Agreement? Rumors about a possible end of the SPA with the start of the winter flight schedule have not been confirmed by Condor. The current agreement will continue for the time being until a final decision is made in the main proceedings. In 2022, the Federal Cartel Office determined that there was a claim under antitrust law to feeder flights and set specific framework conditions for the feeder flights. This decision led to Lufthansa filing an appeal with the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court. The Condor spokeswoman

Croatia Airlines: Towards year-round tourism

Croatian airline Croatia Airlines is planning a comprehensive reorientation of its operations in order to diversify the country's seasonal travel market and stabilize it in the long term. Jasmin Bajić, CEO of Croatia Airlines, stresses the importance of a coordinated approach to promote both international air traffic and domestic tourism. During an interview with the monthly magazine Poduzetnik, Bajić explained the plans to expand the fleet and establish year-round connections from Croatia to international hubs. According to Bajić, Croatia Airlines will introduce a fleet of fifteen new Airbus A220 aircraft in the coming years, which will not only expand existing flight connections but also enable the company to enter new markets. These aircraft will be used primarily on longer routes, while the company plans to replace its fleet of regional turboprop aircraft with wet-lease offers. The decision to put the new Airbus aircraft into service follows the goal of increasing customer satisfaction and ensuring competitiveness in a rapidly changing aviation market. Bajić emphasizes that Croatia, as a popular tourist destination in Europe, has great potential to expand its tourist offer even in less popular months. "We have a vision to develop sustainable year-round tourism in the next five to ten years," says the CEO. This requires an integrative approach that focuses on cooperation with various players in the tourism sector, such as hotels and tour operators. With the introduction of additional aircraft, the airline plans to expand its route network. Six new Airbus A220s are expected in the next 14 months, opening up the possibility of opening new routes to international destinations.

More international train connections: Deutsche Bahn focuses on networking

With the timetable change on December 15, 2024, Deutsche Bahn (DB) is announcing a comprehensive expansion of its international train service. With over 330 daily connections to the twelve neighboring countries, the service is expected to increase by around 25 percent compared to 2019. This project is not only a response to the growing demand for sustainable mobility, but also a commitment to an improved European transport network. DB wants to make rail transport more attractive through these measures. Whether this will succeed remains to be seen. One of the outstanding new offers is the daily connection from Berlin via Strasbourg to Paris, which will go into operation from December 16. This connection is not only a significant addition for travelers, but also promotes tourist exchange between Germany and France. The new ICE will offer travelers the opportunity to reach the French capital comfortably and quickly, making the train a serious alternative to air travel. In addition, for the first time, Amsterdam will be connected daily by ICE to Stuttgart and Munich without changing trains. This marks a further step in the international networking of German cities and could be of great importance, especially for business travellers. According to a survey by the European Railway Association, around 30 percent of travellers already use the train for international journeys, and this number could rise further with the new connections. A new daily late connection in both directions will be introduced between Frankfurt and Brussels from mid-April to early November. This measure is intended to offer travellers more flexibility and reduce the pressure on the often overcrowded high-speed trains.
