Etihad Airways expands cargo fleet with three additional Airbus A350Fs

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has ordered three more Airbus A350 freighters (A350 F) to expand the capacity of its cargo subsidiary Etihad Cargo. The order is based on options from a 2022 contract that already included seven A350 Fs. With the new delivery, the schedule of which is currently being coordinated, Etihad aims to have a cargo fleet of 15 specialised aircraft in total, including five Boeing 777Fs already in service. The A350 F is one of the most modern freight aircraft and offers significant benefits in fuel efficiency and emission reduction. With a maximum payload of 109 tonnes, it is specifically optimised for global cargo markets. According to Airbus, more than 70% of the aircraft structure is made of advanced materials, which reduces take-off weight and reduces fuel consumption by up to 20%. The expansion is part of a long-term strategy with which Etihad aims to secure growth in the cargo industry and increase operational efficiency. This development is supported by new technologies such as Airbus Skywise Health Monitoring, which provides real-time data for maintenance, and the Flight Hour Service (FHS), which enables optimized fleet maintenance.

SAS expands offer from Salzburg to Copenhagen

Scandinavian airline Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is strengthening its commitment to Salzburg Airport and responding to increasing demand by expanding its flight offering to Copenhagen. From mid-May 2025, the airline will offer direct connections from Salzburg to the Danish capital. This new connection, which was originally only offered once a week in the 2024 summer period, will now be expanded to up to three flights per week. This marks a further step in consolidating air traffic between the two cities and is intended to promote both tourism and business travel. A growing market for SAS The cooperation between SAS and Salzburg Airport has proven extremely successful in recent years, especially in winter, when the airline brings holidaymakers from Scandinavia to the popular winter sports areas of the Alps. The weekly direct connection from Salzburg to Copenhagen, introduced in summer 2024, has been well received due to high demand from both Salzburg and Copenhagen. In response, SAS has decided to significantly increase its capacity for summer 2025 to meet passenger needs and further improve travel connections. From mid-May 2025, SAS will now offer direct flights between Salzburg and Copenhagen three days a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday). Qatar Airways considers purchasing Airbus A330 from American Airlines

Qatar Airways, the national carrier of Qatar, may make a remarkable decision in the near future: the acquisition of Airbus A330-200 aircraft originally operated by American carrier American Airlines. This would be a significant step for the airline, which is known for its strategic fleet expansion. In recent years, Qatar Airways has already resorted to the used aircraft market several times to expand its fleet, and this possible acquisition once again shows the airline's ambition to consolidate its position in the global aviation market. Background and motivation behind the possible acquisition American Airlines' former A330-200s were acquired following the company's merger with US Airways in 2013. However, they were temporarily stored during the COVID-19 pandemic and have not been actively operated since then. American Airlines still had 15 of these aircraft, all of which were stored at the Roswell Air Center (ROW) in 2020 to save costs and adapt to changing travel conditions. While the larger Airbus A330-300s were removed from American Airlines' fleet relatively quickly, the A330-200 aircraft remained on hold while the airline considered what to do with these aircraft. Qatar Airways may now decide to purchase these used A330-200s due to production delays at Airbus and Boeing. In particular, the delays in the delivery of the Boeing 777X may have provided an important impetus for this move. By integrating the used A330 aircraft, Qatar Airways could expand its capacity more quickly and bypass the existing supply bottlenecks in the aviation industry.

First-class catering: Delta relies on cheeseburgers

The world's renowned airlines have always distinguished themselves through their exclusive service offerings in first class. Caviar, exquisite wines and gourmet meals are among the highlights for passengers who are willing to pay the high price segment for a luxurious trip. But the US airline Delta Air Lines is now taking an unorthodox approach and is relying on the "eight-dollar burger" as a new culinary highlight. From December 2024, first class passengers on longer flights from Boston will be able to pre-order a cheeseburger from the famous restaurant chain Shake Shack. A concept that may surprise some, but it could also be a clever move to create a new yet inexpensive offer. Shake Shack: A burger for first class Shake Shack, the company founded by the well-known US restaurateur Danny Meyer, is now one of the best known fast food chains in the USA. Famous for its high-quality burgers, fries and milkshakes, Shake Shack now has a loyal following around the world. What started as a small stand-alone restaurant is now a symbol of casual dining at a high level. Now Delta Air Lines has brought this brand into play and offers first class passengers on selected long-haul flights in the USA the opportunity to pre-order a cheeseburger from Shake Shack. This partnership shows once again how airlines want to set new standards with innovative ideas in order to stand out in an increasingly competitive market. A cheeseburger that is offered at a price of just eight dollars is of course a surprising choice in first class, considering that passengers there
