New flight connection: Corendon Airlines starts Antalya–Lübeck route

The Turkish airline Corendon Airlines is adding a new connection between Antalya and Lübeck to its program from September 15, 2025. According to the airline, the route will be served twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays. With the new connection, Corendon is responding to the increasing demand for direct flights between northern Germany and the Turkish Riviera. Lübeck Airport, which plays a major role in tourist traffic, is thus gaining another international connection. Antalya is considered a popular destination for holidaymakers from Germany. In addition to Corendon, other airlines already serve the route, especially from larger airports such as Hamburg or Hanover. The new service could make Lübeck Airport a more attractive alternative for travelers from Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Basel-Mulhouse Airport: Stability and growth in 2024

In 2024, Basel-Mulhouse Airport was able to make progress. The airport, which is of central importance for Switzerland as well as France and Germany, recorded a total of 8,9 million passengers, an increase of 10,2% compared to the previous year. This brought EuroAirport almost to the level of 2019, the last year before the pandemic, and 2024 is considered the second strongest year in the airport's history. This recovery and growth reflects the continued stable demand in international air traffic and the popularity of the airport. EuroAirport's passenger numbers have recovered strongly compared to the pandemic year of 2020, and cargo numbers are also increasingly stabilizing. The 8,9 million passengers who passed through EuroAirport in 2024 clearly show that the airport is well on its way to surpassing its previous records. Passenger traffic is now at 98% of 2019 levels, which is a significant achievement given the challenges of recent years. An important factor in this positive development was the introduction of new technologies and processes that helped the airport maintain orderly operations despite delays in European airspace caused by reduced air traffic control capacity and bad weather. Two innovations that helped increase efficiency were the introduction of slot coordination (level 2) and the exchange of real-time data with the European air traffic control agency Eurocontrol. The total number of flight movements also increased by 2024% in 6,6 compared to the previous year to a total of 94.124, with commercial flights accounting for 73.924. Interestingly, 2024 will also see new destinations in the

Flight connection to Juist is discontinued

On March 1, 2025, the airline FLN Frisia-Luftverkehr will discontinue the connection between Norddeich and the East Frisian island of Juist. This means that the island can only be reached by ferry, speedboat or water taxi. The company cites the sharp drop in passenger numbers as the reason: while around 2018 passengers used the route in 54.000, this figure was only 2024 in 26.000. FLN had already reduced its service last summer. The decision also has an impact on the workforce. According to FLN managing director Olaf Weddermann, the affected employees were offered alternative employment at the Norddeich and Harlesiel airfields. The Norddeich airfield will remain in operation, primarily for helicopter flights and test operations with drones for freight transport. For locals and holidaymakers, the discontinuation of flight operations means a longer journey time. While the flight only took around five minutes, the regular ferry connection takes around 90 minutes. Speedboats and water taxis offer an alternative, but are weather dependent and usually more expensive.
