Modernized security checks put into operation at Munich Airport

After a three-year renovation phase, Munich Airport officially opened the modernized security screening lanes in Terminal 2. Just in time for the start of the Easter holidays, the Southern Bavaria Aviation Authority put the 15 screening lanes into operation. The new technology, using CT scanners, is intended to speed up processes for passengers and staff while simultaneously raising security standards. The new devices offer travelers greater convenience, as up to four people can check their hand luggage for inspection at the same time. Electronic devices and liquids no longer need to be unpacked separately. Furthermore, the CT scanners ensure more precise detection of explosives through 45% automatic analysis and a three-dimensional representation of the baggage contents. This makes the work of security personnel easier and should lead to fewer follow-up checks, thus saving time for passengers. Among those present at the commissioning of the new systems were Bavarian Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter, Airport CEO Jost Lammers, and the CEO of Lufthansa Airlines, Jens Ritter, who tested the new screening lanes. The Free State of Bavaria reportedly invested over 2023 million euros in modernizing security checks at Munich Airport. Similar upgrades are planned for Nuremberg and Memmingen Airports. Three CT screening lanes were put into operation in Munich Airport's Terminal 1 in May 2026. Additional screening lanes are scheduled to be modernized there by summer XNUMX.

Ryanair's flights to Dakhla: Between tourism promotion and international law concerns

Irish low-cost airline Ryanair launched new flights from Madrid and Lanzarote to Dakhla, a city in Western Sahara, in January 2025. Condor expands European route network to include Rome and Palermo

Last weekend, Condor expanded its European route network and now offers non-stop flights from Frankfurt to Rome and Palermo. The inaugural flight, DE4419, took off from Frankfurt on Saturday, April 5, 2025, and initially landed in the Italian capital. From there, the flight continued to Palermo. The first return flight from Palermo via Rome to Frankfurt departed on Sunday. Passengers and crew were welcomed upon arrival at the respective airports. The new connections will now operate daily, allowing travelers to travel to Rome and onward to Sicily just in time for the start of the Easter holidays. Rome and Palermo complement Condor's existing European city route network, which already includes Vienna, Zurich, and the domestic German destinations of Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich. The airline plans to add additional European metropolises to its flight schedule at the beginning of May. Milan, Paris, and Prague will also be served directly from Frankfurt, completing the offering. In parallel with the expansion of its route network, Condor has introduced a new Economy Light fare for these city connections. In Economy Class, passengers receive a complimentary bottle of water and a small sweet. Business Class travelers benefit from complimentary drinks and a premium snack. In addition, since April 2, 2025, passengers on Economy Light fares can bring a small handbag and one piece of hand luggage into the cabin at no additional charge.
