Airbus warns of the impact of Boeing's problems on the aviation industry

Christian Scherer, head of civil aircraft construction at Airbus, warns of the potential impact of the ongoing problems at US aircraft manufacturer Boeing on the entire aviation industry. Scherer expressed his concerns to the “Wirtschaftswoche” newspaper and stressed that Boeing's difficulties could shake confidence in the safety of aviation, which would have an impact on the entire industry.

According to Scherer, the current situation makes the approval of new aircraft more difficult as there is increased pressure from the regulatory authorities. Nevertheless, he denied that Airbus was benefiting from the challenges faced by its biggest competitor. The increased demand for aircraft has led to an increase in prices.

Boeing has been under increasing pressure to improve its quality controls since an incident earlier this year after an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 9 lost a fuselage fragment during climb. The two Boeing 737 MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019, which killed a total of 346 people, were blamed in part on errors in the planes' software.
