Print Friendly, PDF & Email

In 2023, the number of incidents in Russian air traffic increased significantly. According to an analysis by the Aviation Safety Network, there were 196 accidents, 25 percent more than the year before.

The organization attributes this exponential increase in particular to the lack of spare parts. Furthermore, Western manufacturers are not allowed to provide support and are not allowed to supply components directly to Russian suppliers. It is also noteworthy that of the 196 incidents, an impressive 150 affected larger aircraft that are also used in passenger traffic. The organization also reports that it is viewed as a safety risk that some airlines purchase “homemade” spare parts from Iran or have their aircraft serviced there. An increase in accidents in Russian civil aviation is expected to continue in the current year 2024.
