Today, November 5, 2024, is the end of the deadline for submitting comments on the vignette price regulation, which provides for an increase in the price of the annual vignette to 103,8 euros.
The ÖAMTC has sharply criticized this price increase and points out that ASFINAG recently paid another dividend of 255 million euros to the federal government. In total, ASFINAG's dividend payments since 2011 have amounted to around two billion euros. The mobility club argues that the constant increase in vignette prices is not necessary if the federal government does not continually withdraw capital from ASFINAG that is intended for financing motorways and expressways. Abandoning such deductions could reduce ASFINAG's debt by up to a fifth.
The vignette price regulation stipulates that the cost of the vignette will remain stable for the coming years, but this is considered insufficient in the context of the recent price increase. The ÖAMTC is calling for a review of the pricing structure in order not to increase the financial burden on consumers unnecessarily.
