Vienna Airport has strengthened its connections to the Asian continent. With the maiden landing of Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, on June 3, 2025, the Austrian capital is now directly connected to Singapore. The new long-haul connection will operate three times a week year-round with a modern Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, opening up new opportunities for travel to Southeast Asia and for Vienna as a tourism and business location.

The launch of the new flight route was ceremoniously welcomed at Vienna Airport with a water salute. High-ranking representatives from aviation, business, and tourism were present, including Ng Chee Keong, Chief Operating Officer of Scoot, Norbert Kettner, CEO of Vienna Tourism, and Julian Jäger, Member of the Management Board of Vienna Airport AG. Julian Jäger emphasized Vienna's role as a bridge between Europe and Asia and the importance of Singapore as an innovative aviation hub and key growth market. He emphasized that the new connection offers opportunities for tourism, business, and international partnerships.

Ng Chee Keong of Scoot emphasized that the new non-stop flight creates a convenient, attractively priced, and high-quality connection between two cities with strong cultural, economic, and tourism potential. The goal is to open up new markets and make air travel between Europe and Asia more accessible. Astrid Steharnig-Staudinger, Managing Director of Austria Tourist Board, sees the new connection as an opportunity to appeal to a new generation of travelers from Southeast Asia interested in cultural and natural experiences. She emphasized the catchment area of approximately 700 million people and the emerging middle class in Southeast Asia as a dynamic growth region.

Norbert Kettner, CEO of the Vienna Tourist Board, emphasized the importance of Singapore as one of Asia's most economically powerful regions and stressed that the direct connection will further enhance Vienna's attractiveness as a leading congress city. The new route not only enables direct travel but also serves as an important feeder route for Southeast Asia and the Australian continent. Scoot will now fly three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The flight departs from Singapore's Changi International Airport at 03:00 a.m. and arrives in Vienna at 09:05 a.m. The return flight from Vienna departs at 11:25 a.m. and arrives in Singapore the following day at 04:50 a.m. Singapore itself is described as a diverse metropolis of millions, combining modern urbanity, rich culture, and nature, and is also an important financial and logistics hub and starting point for onward travel in Asia.

I wonder why Singapore Airlines doesn't fly to Vienna with an A350? They used to fly to Vienna with a 747, and it was always a pleasure to fly with Singapore Airlines.

I've flown with Scoot before, both in Economy and Economy Plus. I won't do either again. It's better to fly with Emirates or Qatar to Singapore.
