BER Airport adjusts runway identifiers due to magnetic shift

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) will change the names of its two runways on October 3, 2024. The previous north runway 25R/07L will become 24R/06L and the south runway 07R/25L will become 06R/24L.

The reason for the adjustment is the shift of the magnetic north pole, which requires a readjustment of the orbits aligned with the compass rose. The change, which affects airports worldwide, is being carried out in close cooperation with the German Air Traffic Control (DFS) and airlines. Flight operations and the arrival and departure routes remain unchanged. The re-marking of the runways and the replacement of the signs on the apron have already begun.
