Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB) has been a member of the aviation initiative aireg (Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany eV) since June 1, 2024. As an important transport hub, BER bears a special responsibility for society, the climate and the environment.

The FBB has committed to reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030 percent by 2010 compared to 65 and to completely neutralizing them by 2045 at the latest. Important measures include decarbonizing the energy supply and converting ground mobility to alternative drives. In addition, the FBB is working with various partners to reduce emissions and is providing the necessary infrastructure for this, such as the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and the expansion of e-mobility on the apron.

Aletta von Massenbach, Managing Director of FBB, emphasizes: "With the FBB joining the association, we are reaffirming our commitment to Sustainable Aviation Fuels and sending a strong signal for a sustainable and more climate-friendly future for aviation in Berlin and Brandenburg." Melanie Form, Managing Director and member of the aireg Board, adds: "In order to make German air traffic more sustainable and competitive, aireg is committed to the local use of SAF at German airports. We are therefore very pleased to welcome FBB as a new member."
