A new airline is launched on the Bermuda Islands under the name BermudAir. This received AOC and operating license from the Civil Aviation Authority on July 25, 2023. Scheduled flights to the United States of America are expected to be offered from August 25, 2023.
Initially, BermudAir intends to use two Embraer E175s with 30 seats. It positions itself as a premium provider, because according to its own statements, the machines should have so-called executive equipment. Initially, the plan is to set course for Westchester County, Boston and Fort Lauderdale Airport from LF Wade International Airport, which is located near the island's capital, Hamilton. Later, more US destinations will be added to the route network and the fleet will be expanded accordingly.
One can also imagine that larger aircraft will be operated in the future. The startup also sees commercial potential for non-stop flights between the Bermuda Islands and Europe. The possible demand is considered to be severely undersupplied at the moment. But these are still just considerations, because first you want to establish the USA routes.
But there is still a "stumbling block" because the formal approval required by the authorities of the United States of America has not yet been obtained. The corresponding application had already been submitted on May 5, 2023, but no approval had yet been received. The now available AOC has now been submitted via a lawyer and the DoT has been asked to urgently process the matter.
