In a recent study, Bremen Airport has proven to be the most punctual airport in Germany. According to the investigation by Allianz Direct In 2024, flights departing from Bremen were delayed by an average of just 11,29 minutes. This puts the airport in first place in a nationwide comparison.
The airport in northwest Germany has already impressed with its reliability in recent years. Between 2020 and 2024, Bremen consistently topped the rankings. Even airports with significantly higher passenger volumes such as Frankfurt, Munich or Hamburg could not keep up with Bremen's punctuality.
Dr. Marc Cezanne, Managing Director of Bremen Airport, expressed his delight at the good results: "We are delighted with this great snapshot. And we see the ranking as motivation to continue investing in the smooth process for travelers from Bremen in the future."
Reasons for the slight delay
Bremen Airport's success in adhering to flight schedules could be attributed to several factors. Unlike international hubs such as Frankfurt or Munich, which have to handle thousands of take-offs and landings every day, Bremen has a comparatively manageable flight volume. This enables more efficient handling and reduces the likelihood of delays due to bottlenecks or congestion.
Added to this is the airport's infrastructural location. Bremen has a single runway, which clearly structures traffic and minimizes the risk of delays due to complex taxiing procedures or tight slots.
importance for the region
Bremen Airport is not only an important transport hub for northwest Germany, but also an economic and tourist factor for the entire region. With a catchment area of around 13 million people, the airport offers direct connections to international hubs such as Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam, Zurich and Vienna. From there, more than 500 destinations worldwide can be reached with just one transfer.
In addition to classic holiday and business trips, Bremen also plays a central role in aerospace. The airport works closely with innovative companies and research institutes and is considered one of the most important combined aerospace locations in Europe.
Comparison with other airports
While Bremen emerged as the most punctual airport in Germany in the study, other airports fared less well. Delays are particularly common at the large German hubs, for example due to high passenger volumes, strict security checks or weather-related restrictions. Airports such as Frankfurt or Munich also often have to deal with the effects of international delays, which can affect connecting flights.
Nevertheless, punctuality remains a key concern for many German airports. Even though Bremen currently leads the ranking, other airports are also investing in more efficient processes to minimize delays.
