Carinthia has become a pioneer in barrier-free tourism in recent years. A comprehensive range of inclusive and accessible nature experiences and certified establishments are intended to ensure that holidays are equally possible for all groups of people. This commitment is being continued within the framework of the project "Tourism for All“ and through participation in the EU project PLACES consistently pursued.
The efforts are already bearing fruit: In Carinthia, 21 accommodation establishments, 6 campsites, 19 restaurants, 10 excursion destinations and 9 nature experiences have been awarded the quality seal “ÖZIV tested" excellent. Rudolf Kravanja, President of the ÖZIV Federal Association, underlines Carinthia's pioneering role in barrier-free tourism. Carinthia ads and commercials supports the companies with professional photo shoots for recertification in order to better present the barrier-free offers.
Klaus Ehrenbrandtner, Managing Director of Carinthia Tourism, emphasized that accessibility is not a niche issue, but a social necessity that also affects older people and families with small children. The numerous positive feedback from other federal states and abroad confirms that Carinthia is a leader in this area. Within the framework of the EU project PLACES, we are working with partners from Italy and Austria on innovative solutions. Successful examples such as the barrier-free Pyramidenkogel or the Skywalk on the Dobratsch were presented at a transnational meeting.
The barrier-free offers, which also include a bookable Train station shuttle are available not only to tourists but also to locals. An interactive map on the Carinthia Tourist Board website provides an overview of all available offers. The collaboration between destinations, businesses, and institutions makes it clear that sustainable and inclusive tourism is a common goal in Carinthia.
