The Carinthian lake district was awarded the Travelbook Award in the category “Best Region for a Hiking Holiday (DACH)” on October 9, 2024 in Berlin.
The prize, which was awarded by a jury of tourism experts and by a public vote, recognizes the special combination of scenic beauty, diverse infrastructure and sustainability efforts. With 164 points, Carinthia prevailed against strong competition such as Lake Lucerne, the Moselle Valley and the Swabian Alb.
Carinthia has established itself as a popular destination for hikers in recent years. The managing director of Kärnten Werbung, Klaus Ehrenbrandtner, emphasized the growing importance of hiking in the region. According to current surveys, 39 percent of visitors to Carinthia describe their stay as a hiking holiday, with 71 percent of summer guests in 2023 stating hiking as their main activity. Popular hiking trails include the Wörthersee circular hiking trail, the Via Paradiso and the Weissensee Nature Park, which impress with their scenic diversity and viewpoints.
