Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have launched a collaboration to support various sustainability initiatives. This MoU was recently signed by both parties to promote the development and use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in the Asia-Pacific region. The aim is to contribute to the decarbonization of the aviation industry and to exchange proven strategies.
The signing was made by Cathay Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ronald Lam and Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong at the 80th Annual Meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the World Air Transport Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The agreement focuses on two main goals: achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and driving awareness of sustainability in the aviation industry.
On the one hand, both airlines are jointly committed to increasing the use of SAF in the Asia-Pacific region. This includes raising public awareness of SAF's role in decarbonization, promoting supportive policies and establishing global standards for accounting and reporting.
On the other hand, the focus is on sharing best practices for reducing single-use plastics, minimizing waste and improving the energy efficiency of ground and freight processes. This is expected to enable Cathay and Singapore Airlines to optimize their sustainability strategies and accelerate implementation in their operations. The cooperation underlines the commitment of both airlines to a more environmentally friendly future in the aviation industry.
