On December 19, 2024, the Chinese-developed C919 medium-range jet reached a significant milestone: China Eastern Airlines flight MU2158 carried the millionth passenger since the model entered commercial service on May 28, 2023. The lucky passenger, Ms. Lin, received a model of the C919 as a souvenir and expressed her pride at having flown on a domestic aircraft.

The C919, developed by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), has become well established since its launch. By December 2024, 14 aircraft had been delivered to three major airlines - China Eastern Airlines, Air China and China Southern Airlines. They have operated the C919 on 15 routes in 10 cities, making over 6.200 flights and carrying more than one million passengers.

The increasing number of flights and passengers demonstrates the growing confidence in China's independently developed aviation technology and underscores the strategic importance of the C919 for the domestic aviation industry.
