Cologne/Bonn Airport celebrates its anniversary with two projects for children in Porz

As part of its anniversary year, Cologne Bonn Airport implemented two projects for children in its immediate neighborhood, the Porz district. A new Bobby Car racetrack was built at the non-profit "Himmelsstürmer" daycare center, while a dedicated traffic practice area for students was opened in the schoolyard of the Hauptstraße Community Elementary School (GGS) in Cologne-Porz. These initiatives underscore the airport's social commitment and its ties to the local community.

Thilo Schmid, CEO of Cologne/Bonn Airport, emphasized the importance of the commitment at the symbolic opening of the track and the handover of the Bobby Car to the daycare center. He emphasized that the energetic efforts of many colleagues had resulted in something wonderful for the youngest children, demonstrating their collective creativity. Christiane Weigand, Chairwoman of the Porz Citizens' Foundation, praised the airport's support at this year's "Business Action Day" in Porz as an impressive example of community spirit, making a valuable contribution to the community spirit in the district.

Both projects are part of the airport's contribution to this year's "Business Action Day" in Porz. Airport employees selected the projects themselves and implemented them with considerable initiative during their working hours. Numerous volunteers from various departments were deployed, as well as special vehicles and heavy equipment from the airport that is normally used on runways. The airport's civil engineering department, gardening department, and central sweeping service were involved in preparatory work beforehand. The airport also provided building materials and tools, prepared green spaces, and planted a chestnut tree in the daycare center. The airport, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, traditionally participates in the "Business Action Day," which is organized on a voluntary basis by the Porz Citizens' Foundation. Neighborhood companies implement projects in social institutions free of charge.
