Cologne/Bonn Airport can look back on a successful wave of travel after the end of the summer holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia. A total of 1,7 million passengers were processed in the six and a half intensive weeks.

The busiest day was August 4, when around 43.000 travelers used the airport. On the last holiday weekend (August 16-18), almost 120.000 passengers were counted. The management is satisfied and thanked the employees and partners for their commitment during this challenging time.

Beach resorts and sunny destinations in Europe were particularly popular this summer. Turkey topped the list of the most popular destinations with around 500.000 passengers, followed by Spain (360.000) and Italy (141.000). Antalya, Palma de Mallorca and Istanbul were the most frequently visited destinations.

The airport expects continued high passenger numbers in the coming months, especially during the autumn holidays. The airline Marabu is opening a new base at Cologne/Bonn Airport at the start of the holidays and is offering flights to sunny destinations on the Canary Islands and in Egypt. Eurowings is also adding new direct connections to Dubai and Jeddah to its winter flight schedule from the end of October.
